Mechanical Design Engineer Job

• Design, develop, and modify mechanical components using mechanical engineering principles and computer-aided design tools, with primary application to transformer tank structures that must withstand electromagnetic forces, internal oil pressure, thermal stress, and transportation loading under Hyosung HICO’s internal design standards;
• Review technical specifications, electrical ratings, and project requirements to create accurate mechanical layouts and component configurations, applying general mechanical design knowledge to transformer tank dimensions, wall thicknesses, material selection, and reinforcement layouts;
• Prepare preliminary mechanical designs and assist with feasibility and cost impact assessments by estimating materials and components, requiring an understanding of both standard mechanical fabrication methods and transformer-specific manufacturing constraints;
• Use engineering software to create, evaluate, and modify three-dimensional mechanical models, including analysis under varying environmental and operating conditions such as temperature and mechanical stress, as applied to transformer tank assemblies;
• Develop detailed mechanical designs for production by selecting appropriate materials and components, presenting preliminary designs for senior engineer review, and finalizing approved drawings in accordance with internal transformer design standards and manufacturing requirements;
• Register, manage, and maintain mechanical design outputs, including drawings, specifications, and revision records, within SAP, PLM, and internal engineering systems to support coordination among engineering, procurement, and manufacturing teams;
• Collaborate with drafting personnel to prepare and review detailed mechanical drawings, applying general drafting review practices while identifying design considerations specific to transformer tank fabrication and assembly;
• Support sourcing and procurement activities by providing technical input for supplier quotations related to mechanical components, ensuring alignment with approved designs, material requirements, and delivery schedules for transformer projects;
• Assist in identifying opportunities for design optimization and cost control by applying mechanical engineering judgment to transformer tank structures, balancing strength, thermal performance, and manufacturability;
• Support the consistent application and improvement of internal engineering procedures and design guidelines by incorporating feedback and lessons learned from ongoing transformer design and production activities;
• Communicate and collaborate with electrical, thermal, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams to ensure mechanical designs integrate effectively with transformer active parts, cooling systems, and installation requirements;
• Train Associate Mechanical Engineers on internal software, manufacturing practices, and standards;
• Ensure mechanical design activities comply with Hyosung HICO’s Quality, Safety, and Environmental policies and applicable industry and customer standards, supporting the long-term reliability and safe operation of power transformers.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field of study;
• 4 to 8 years of experience in engineering, or equivalent education and experience;
• Developed analytical and problem-solving skills applicable to mechanical design tasks;
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office products, computer aided design software, and engineering analysis tools such as finite element analysis;
• Experience using PLM or PDM and professional data management methods
• Ability to read, understand, and create technical drawings and engineering documentation;
• Ability to analyze engineering and project data accurately and effectively;
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with multinational, cross functional engineering and manufacturing teams;
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20 percent of the time, as required by project needs.
