Objective:
I have been employed as a Purchasing Manager for more than 10 years in a fast paced manufacturing environment where I have had to work closely with engineering, quality, sales, and accounting. Multitasking and flexability were key in maintainting on time deliveries while helping in other departments. i have been called on to take over as Master scheduler and also to work with manufacturing to create the plan to meet the schedule. i also created costing models for the bidding process in Excell which combined with working with the engineers resulted in many cost savings by reducing materials and labor.

Experience:

Purchasing manager
DCI, inc. in Lisbon, NH
March 1985 to April 2006
Helped to create a computerized inventory system utilizing bin locations tracked all transactions for parts for the warehouses and floor stocks.

Created a purchasing spreadsheet tracking order qty, usage, and allocations that allowed instant access to on hand balances and qtys available of thousands of different parts for future jobs. This also allowed cross checks between reported inventory and projected inventory levels. Any deviation was cause for spot checks that usually resulted in found parts.

Continuously worked with existing suppliers or developed new suppliers to reduce costs and lead times. High volume and high cost items were continuously out to bid and resulted in savings on many items of up to 50%. Grommets with a volume of 30,000 dropped from $1.05 to $0.60 by developing a manufacturer. Lights with a volume of 5,000 dropped from $25.00 to $13.95 by outsourcing to China.

Developed a new supplier for packing materials and by working with them on a new and better design we were able to reduce costs by 20% to 40% which will result in savings to the company of approx. $70,000 per year.- while reducing packing labor.

Master Scheduler for 3 years and created schedules for 3 assembly plants based on order size, characteristics, location and many other variables. Developed rules for my successor for scheduling and integrated the 3 assembly schedules into a Master Schedule I created in Excel that gave sequence of orders, dates to ship to assembly plants, assembly schedules and dates to ship to customers.

Worked with the manufacturing manager and developed a plan for the shop floor that enabled the operators to optimize setups and also provide buildable units to assembly. By looking at workstations and daily assembly requirements I was able to give the floor a plan that kept reduced manufacturing time to assembly from over 4 weeks to 1-1/2 weeks that not only gave visibility to labor requirements but reduced WIP. We were able plan the move of people in advance that saved on labor costs and WIP was cut by over half.

Created costing sheets on all items that linked overhead, material, labor costs and machine times to the BOM's where all costing data could be updated through a central area. Through the time studies I did and through optimization analysis of materials I was able to reduce both material and labor costsand also increase commonality between parts to reduce set ups. One example is the change in Wall units to using a two piece back utilizing an existing back rail that reduced the back material cost by 17%. This was then used for wardrobes that by adding the same rail it ended up with a 12% reduction.
