Summary:

For the past twenty-eight years I have worked in the design and construction industry as a Division Head, Project Manager, Engineer Diver, Field Inspector, Staff Engineer and Draftsman. I have extensive experience in structural and architectural design incorporating structural steel, reinforced concrete, timber, and aluminum. This experience has been applied to the design of many building, piers, wharfs, marinas, ferry landings and ferry terminals. My ability to evaluate existing structures through topside and underwater inspections, as well as materials sampling and testing techniques, has provided clients with cost effective designs for reuse of structural elements during rehabilitation design efforts. My experience with above and underwater construction techniques and construction monitoring allows me to provide the client with accurate designs that are constructible and within budgets. Through my work in the metro region ferry industry, I have become an expert in ADA design for waterfront and ferry transportation facilities.

Position: Project Manager/Diver

Responsibilities:
• Business Development – Responsibilities included development of marketing materials, quarterly newsletter, contacting and meeting with new clients, exploring new markets, and ensuring that existing clients were satisfied.
• Executive Management Committee – This committee formulated the direction for the firm. As a member of this committee, my responsibilities included reporting on the overall marketing efforts and evaluating progress on business development goals.
• Project Management – Responsibilities included overall project management including, proposals, financial, project scheduling, attending project meetings and client interaction.
• Design – Responsibilities for all aspects of design oversight including staff scheduling, reviewing calculations, preparing or reviewing permitting applications for local, state and federal agencies, reviewing drawings and specifications.
• Construction Administration/Management – Responsibilities included review of shop drawings, attending construction progress meetings, periodic review of the construction progress and adherence to the design plans and specifications, field reports and permit and project closeout.
• Safety Committee – This committee was tasked with developing, implementing and enforcing the safety standards for the firm. This included developing a safety manual, establishing safety standards for field and diving that met or exceeded established regulatory standards such as OSHA.

Sample Projects:
• Pier 6 Water Taxi Landing - Designed a new water taxi landing at Pier 6 located in Brooklyn Bridge Park. This landing is part of a larger project known as the Brooklyn Bridge Park which is rehabilitating and constructing a park on six (6) piers located on the East River in Brooklyn, New York. The landing was designed for use by water taxis and is to bring people to the park from other parts of the city. It is also used to ferry concert goers to Governor’s Island.
• 216th Waterfront Infrastructure Upgrade – This project was for New York City EDC and NYC DOS to restore and protect 500 feet of shoreline along the Harlem River in Manhattan. I was directly responsible for the initial design level inspections and the rehabilitation design drawings and specifications.


• Pier 6 Heliport Substructure Rehabilitation – I was the Project Manager for the inspection and rehabilitated the pier and supported barge at Pier 6 in New York City. Project consisted of a design level inspection, rehabilitation design drawings and specifications and construction supervision.
• Pier 11 – I was the Project Manager for the inspection and repair design for Pier 11 in located in lower Manhattan. Project consisted of a Routine underwater investigation and repair designs and specifications.
• Yankee Stadium Barge – I was the Project Manager for rehabilitation of the ferry landing located at Yankee Stadium. The project consisted of performing a condition survey, design specifications for refurbishing the barge, and construction oversight at the shipyard.
• New York City’s Local Law 68 - Project Manager for implementation of New York City Local Law 68 mandates for all city owned and operated commuter ferry landing. The Local Law mandates that commuter ferry facilities and vessels provide for equal access to individuals with disabilities. As Project Manager, I was tasked with investigating the 10 landings operated by NYC, review and document all vessels in the current private ferry fleet, provide designs to modify existing landings, provide construction Resident Engineering Services, and draft a standard for all future city-owned and operated ferry landings.
• NYC EDC 2005 Waterfront Inspections Program - Project Manager of routine underwater inspections for five (5) sites located in the Boroughs of Brooklyn and Manhattan. The contract mandated that inspections and reports be completed and issued to the agency within eight (8) weeks of Notice To Proceed. The project was divided into two (2) parts, each with a Team Leader, allowing the team to complete the inspections and submit reports within the allotted time frame.
• Kinder Morgan Terminal - Project Manager for Waterfront Rehabilitation of the terminal on Staten Island. I was responsible for inspection, design, scheduling, QA/QC review, and interaction with the client. The facility was damaged in an explosion and fire in February 2003 resulting in severe damage to the mooring and berthing structures.
• Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, NY - Project Manager for the emergency repairs of a collapsed wood bulkhead and bridge structure. Over a Memorial Day weekend, I was called to provide a Rapid Assessment of a collapsed bulkhead and damaged pedestrian bridge. The pedestrian bridge was a vital link across the bay that could not be closed for the entire summer. With Turner Construction, we developed plans to install a temporary bridge across the bay using barges and aluminum gangways. The temporary bridge was designed, constructed and opened within four (4) days. I was then tasked with providing designs and Resident Engineering Services for the replacement of the failed bulkhead and pedestrian bridge, with a completion goal of November 30, 2005. The wall and pedestrian bridge were completed on November 23, 2005.

McLaren Engineering Group, West Nyack, New York June 1992 - April 2005
Position: Division Chief/Project Manager/Staff Engineer

Responsibilities:

Project Samples:
• World Trade Center Disaster Safety and Recovery Team – Responsibilities included reviewing and directing contractors involved with the demolition and removal of debris. I worked closely with emergency personnel that included NYC Fire Department, NYC Police Department, NYC Emergency Services Units and NYC Department of Construction to ensure the safety of all on site personnel.
• Pier A Emergency Ferry Landing Located at Pier A – As Project Manager, I was tasked with designing and installing a six berth landing and amenities in approximately two months. This facility was important in the City’s plans to open the southern tip of NYC after the September 11, 2001 events. Responsibilities included project management, coordination with New York City Economic Development Corporation, NYC Department of Transportation, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, United States Coast Guard and New York State Department of Environmental Protection, coordination of the twenty four hour – seven day a week construction effort, and interaction with ferry operators.
• East and Harlem River Ferry Landings - Senior Project Manager providing project management of all tasks associated with the project including site surveys, project programming, schematic design through the construction phase for the development of seven landing sites to be located along the East side of New York City.
• Battery Park City Ferry Terminal, New York. Senior Project Manager providing structural, marine, foundation and accessibility services for a new 32,000 s.f. terminal that will include five ferry slips with variable height loading ramps capable of berthing vessels of varying freeboard requirements.

Responsibilities:
• Design – Responsible for all aspects of design development for commercial and residential clients.
• Drafting – Responsible for developing and installing a CADD system for the office. I developed a data base of standard CADD details, title blocks and drawing sizes.
