About This Position

The John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics (HIHG) at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting career opportunity for a Biostatistician. Under the direction of the Analytic Project Manager(s) and Project Principal Investigators, the Biostatistician will provide statistical support for the Genetic Epidemiology Core within the Hussman Institute for Human Genomics. This entails collaborating with clinical and translation researchers on developing, implementing, and analyzing data for research studies.

The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:



  • Develops study design and data analysis plans

  • Analyzes, evaluates and reports on complex observation research data

  • Prepares results for progress reports and presentations

  • Prepares results for peer-reviewed publications and being a co-author on peer-reviewed manuscripts

  • Maintains and documents the studies' databases

  • Presents results of statistical analyses to study investigators

  • Consults with the study investigators on planning and specifying statistical analysis

  • Consults on data collection methods and quality control

  • Provides problem solving support for barriers to analyses and consults with other methodologists and statisticians


Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in a life science discipline, statistics, mathematics, or a closely related field of study with at least one year of relevant experience. Proficiency with statistical software packages, particularly SAS and R. Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions. Effective communication skills (both verbal and written).
