Job Description:

About This Position

Join a vibrant research program in sensory neuroscience. This NIH-funded position is to continue NIH-supported projects in the laboratory of Dr. Nirupa Chaudhari in the Dept. of Physiology & Biophysics. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/myncbi/nirupa.chaudhari.1/bibliography/public/

Project(s) will involve:

  • integrated molecular-functional definition of gustatory neurons, in particular, the patterns of stimulus-evoked responses using in vivo confocal Ca2+ imaging on defined neuronal subsets.

  • transgenic- and viral-tracing to establish gustatory circuitry by cell type.

The successful candidate will be expert in one or more of the following, and progressively to acquire expertise in additional areas: neuronal recording and computational methods (electrophysiology or Ca2+ imaging), rodent surgery, molecular genetics, neuroanatomical tracing, in situ hybridization and/or immunostaining.

Minimum Qualifications

Possess a recent PhD in neuroscience, molecular biology/biophysics or related discipline, research experience in neuroscience-related experimental approaches, and evidence of stage-appropriate, strong research productivity and a commitment to a career in scientific research.

The successful candidate will have every opportunity to rapidly develop experience with the gustatory system by collaborating with other lab members as well as developing her/his own independent projects within the area of PI's funded research program on chemosensory mechanisms and molecular/functional connectivity. S/he will have opportunities to improve skills in scientific writing, presenting research at conferences and developing essential "soft skills" for a career in science.

Please send a CV including names of 3 references, and statement of research interests to:
