The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS), invites applications for a part-time (20 hours/week) Research Assistant position in Physical Oceanography. The position is concerned with providing technical and science support to observational programs and will involve close collaboration with scientists at RSMAS and the NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML). The successful applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in computer science, mathematics, oceanography, environmental science, or a related field, and some experience working with Matlab. Experience with the Linux operating systems is necessary. The incumbent must have excellent written and oral communication skills in order to communicate with a diverse group of people in large collaborative projects. The incumbent is expected to support operations of NOAA Global Drifter Program's Data Assembly Center at AOML by applying existing quality control procedures to Iridium and Argos drifter data for processing and analysis and its distribution onto the Global Telecommunications System.
