The Assistant Manager, Marketing Events contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society by managing efforts to provide an extraordinary guest experience and drive attendance through engaging and impactful onsite communications, programming, promotions and events.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage and provides suggestions/recommendations regarding the development of new onsite programs and events and the enhancement of existing programs and events, including logistics planning, budgets, etc. Research, develop, and manage new business programs through fruition, including logistics planning, budgets, etc.
• Recruit, hire, train, and schedule Marketing Event Operations Assistant seasonal employees for both external and internal events, coordinating with the Volunteer and Partnership Marketing departments, to support program execution and sponsorship onsite activations.
• Responsible for execution of assigned onsite programs, events, and promotions including coordinating with internal cross-functional groups/departments, and seasonal staff.
• Assist with the onsite operation logistics of all marketing events including set-up and take-down of equipment and supplies. Responsible for the coordination of staff to provide costume characters as needed.
• Manage project documents including timelines, budgets, performance tracking, etc. and disseminate information to internal cross-functional groups.
• Other related duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
The requirements for this position include:
• High school diploma or (GED) equivalent required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or related field or eight years of equivalent experience.
• Two years of experience in marketing, events, promotions or other related area or field required (may be included in above).
• Strong communications and creative writing skills. English fluency at a full professional proficiency.
• Strong computer skills required. Knowledge of a variety of software applications (including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.)
• Prior budget experience required.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a warm, amiable personality. Ability to interact professionally and effectively and maintain positive relationships with staff, outside vendors, suppliers, media, and others.
• Must be persistent, helpful, able to meet critical deadlines, and able to deal with multiple issues at one time.
• Solid analytical and decision-making skills.
• Must be self-motivated, flexible, and confident, possess a high level of energy, and enjoy working in a dynamic environment.
• Cultural competency; experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Preferred Qualifications: Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus.
