Job Description:
The position of Club Driver is responsible for driving a bus and/or van over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging members; provide for safe and efficient transportation of all Club members to and from the Club, special events, and field trips; assist in loading and unloading of members; perform daily inspections and maintenance of vehicle. Contact designated schools for members dismissal schedule.

In addition the position also provides supervision and promotes engagement of club members, and ensures a safe and supportive environment for club members by promoting positive relationships.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• General

Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes. Maintains bus and/or vans in a safe operating condition through prescribed daily vehicles inspections, including washing, cleaning windows, mirrors, vehicles interior and exterior; check and maintain fuel, oil, and water levels; check brakes, break lights, and doors; report and log all findings, defects and malfunction to appropriate personnel. Maintain records concerning vehicle maintenance, miles driven and number of children transported and other related matters. Completes pre/post test on a daily basis, promptly reporting, correcting, or causing to be corrected any noted defect. Assist members in proper vehicle evacuation procedures as assigned. Maintain order and discipline among members while driving. Promotes and stimulates program participation. Provides guidance and role modeling to members. Participates as part of a team to run quality programs by helping out where needed or directed. Participates in training / educational opportunities to expand knowledge and skills. Additional duties as assigned.

• Programs

Implement and administer program, services and activities for members. Monitors and evaluates programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members and quality in programs.

• Supervision and Administrative Management

Maintains order and, as required and as per BGCMLA policy, discipline of club members. Supervises club members on field trips, athletic trips, etc. Ensures a productive work environment by participating in programmatic / club staff meetings.

Monitors supply needs and orders required supplies through approved vendors and within budget. Keeps supply areas neat and orderly. Completes and submits all required paperwork on time.

Recommends needed repairs to vehicles.



MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTABILITY

This position reports to the Facilities/Transportation Director. This position does not include specific supervisory or fiscal accountabilities.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: The position will be expected to develop positive and supportive professional relationships with members, serving as a positive role model for young people through communication, dress, and attitude. The position will also engage in extensive interaction with club staff in program management and club operations.

External: As needed the position will be involved in collaborative, or engage in leading, community outreach, program extension, and club related event activities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of subject matter within core areas and youth development in general.

Provisions of the California State Motor Vehicle Code applicable to the operation of vehicles transporting members.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications. Valid State Class B Drivers License with youth passenger endorsement and Youth bus certified. Valid Medical Card.

Ability to deal effectively with members, including disciplinary issues. Demonstrated ability in relationship building and working with young people and parents. Ability to demonstrate a professional manner in all interactions, able to facilitate a diverse group of youth effectively, and to organize time well and focus on completing assigned tasks with minimal supervision.


Job Requirements:
• At least 21 years of age.
• High School diploma or GED.
• DMV (H-6) printout dated within the past 30 days.
• Combined experience and / or formal training equivalent to a minimum of two years where:
o Experience driving a school bus or heavy motor vehicle.
o There is experience working with youth and some knowledge of youth development.
o Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
• Safe driving record.
• Valid Class B California Driver’s license.
• Valid Commercial Vehicle and Passenger Endorsement.
• Pass criminal background check and livescan.


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:

• Possession of a valid and appropriate California Drivers License
• Successful completion of all examination components required of school bus drivers by the California Highway Patrol including a Class B, P, & S endorsement(as needed by the Organization)
• Valid and unrestricted School Bus Certificate (as needed)
• Valid standard Red Cross First Aid Certificate
• Valid Medical Examine Certificate
