The Opportunity | Benefits Assistant

This entry-level position supports the administration of the company's 401(k) plan and Employee Stock Purchase Plan ("ESPP"). The Benefits Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day activities required for properly administering two employee benefit plans and providing customer service to our employees. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and effectively coordinate with our HRIS team and benefit plan providers. The Benefit Assistant will receive direction from the Benefits Principal and work under the supervision and direction of the 401(k) Manager.

Your Challenge:

  • The incumbent will be required to use their organization, communication, and analytical thinking skills to resolve 401(k) administrative issues including payroll remittance and out-of-balance issues, eligibility and participation, enrollment, contribution reconciliation, 401(k) loan and hardship withdrawal issues, accounting issues, etc. on a weekly basis

  • The incumbent is required to have insight into plan design, systems and processes to assist employees in resolving issues with their 401(k) account in accordance with the terms of the Plan document and ERISA.

  • 401(k)Plan Administration:

    • Run essential audit reports weekly to identify and correct data issues (plan eligibility and status codes, auto-enrollment/auto-increase errors, 401k match eligibility, union status and eligibility issues, loan discrepancies)

    • Prepare monthly, quarterly and ad hoc reports and create data files to support the department, research employee issues and find the appropriate resolution, participate in bi-weekly service calls with benefit plan providers, provide audit support, and provide customer service to employees.

    • Prepare weekly funding notices to fund employee and employer matching contributions, identify and resolve data discrepancies between HRIS and benefit plan provider systems

  • ESPP Administration:

    • Administer the semi-annual enrollment windows; coordinate with non-US locations. Process contribution changes, and report taxable events to the payroll and tax department

  • Employee Communications:

    • Support the department with scheduling and distributing required benefit plan communications including quarterly distribution of the 401k Summary Plan Description, coordinating with the 401k provider Communications Consultant, update and distribute enrollment materials for the ESPP semi-annual enrollment windows.

Your Expertise:

  • The ideal candidate will have 1-2 year's experience in benefit plan administration and have familiarity with 401(k) plans or ESPP administration.

  • Associates degree highly preferred in Human Resources or a related field; High School or Equivalent Required.

  • Curtiss-Wright expects the successful candidate to complete the ASPPA Retirement Plan Fundamentals Certificate (Parts 1&2) and the NASP Employee Stock Purchase Plan Essentials courses within 6-12 months from date of hire.

  • Intermediate computer proficiency is required, experience with MS Word and mastery of basic Excel skills are required.

  • The successful candidate must be self-motivated and have good organizational skills.

  • Letter writing skills to create employee correspondence is required.

  • Experience working with payroll systems, 401(k) plan administration or Employee Stock Purchase Plan administration is also preferred.

  • This is a very visible position that requires contact with employees and developing professional relationships with other departments. Excellent customer service skills, the ability to work independently, and cheerful attitude will translate into success.
