Job Description:
 The Department of Homeland Security, Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction ( CWMD ) contract supports IT Infrastructure planning and transformation in the areas of Cloud Engineering/Solutions Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, and/or IT Program Planning and Analysis . Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of automating virtual infrastructure deployment and configuration, and develop CI/CD best practices across the team.
- Contribute to best practices across the team, and be able to work in unsupervised fashion to complete tasks in an agile Kanban environment.
- Brief senior leadership and end users about the benefits of the solution, and the technology choices made.
- Maintain existing infrastructure and develop new virtual infrastructure for applications as they are onboarded.
- Lead the creation of CI/CD pipelines for applications, and script existing and new infrastructure using repeatable CloudFormation scripts.
- Assist in hybrid cloud deployments, and contribute to best practices across the team.
- Brief senior leadership and end users at varying levels of familiarity with cloud technologies, about the technology selections, best practices, and benefits of our approach.
- Deploying, automating, maintaining and managing AWS cloud-based production, pre-production and dev environments, to ensure the availability, performance, scalability and security of environments.
- Build, release and configuration management of the above environments.
- Pre-production Acceptance Testing to help assure the quality of our products / services.
- Ensuring 24/7 system uptimes.
- Design, implement, and execute Backup and Recovery and Business Continuity processes;
- Design, implement, and execute security standards;
- System troubleshooting and problem solving across platform and application domains.
- Suggesting architecture improvements, recommending process improvements.
- Evaluate new technology options and vendor products.
- Ensuring critical system security through the use of best in class cloud security solutions.
- Monitor AWS maintenance and outages, assess impact, and develop strategies to minimize impact;
- Create and follow up on AWS support tickets.
- Author CloudFormation scripts, and help maintain existing script repository
- Work independently in an agile Kanban environment to complete tasks, report status, identify blockers, and pro-actively resolve issues
- Set up, configure and maintain a Jenkins-based CI/CD pipeline
- Communicate clearly in written and verbal form with varying audiences of developers, BAs and other stakeholders
- Self-starter, with an ability to pick up new AWS and scripting technologies
Qualifications:
- US Citizen able to obtain a Dept of Homeland Security EOD badge.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited school
- At least 2+ years' experience with using a broad range of AWS technologies (e.g. EC2,ECR, ECS, EKS, Lambda, RDS, ELB, EFS, EBD, S3, VPC, SNS, SQS, SES, CloudWatch, Route 53) to develop and maintain a range of Amazon AWS based cloud solution, with an emphasis on best practice cloud security.
- 2+ years' experience with AWS Infrastructure provisioning for fault tolerance and high availability
- 2+ years of experience with Hybrid Cloud
- Practical experience and deep understanding of:
- Well Architected framework
- CloudFormation (Infrastructure as code)
- CI/CD stacks in AWS
- Lambda used in conjunction with S3, CloudTrail and EC2
- AWS CLI or Python/Ruby/C#/NodeJS AWS APIs
- CloudWatch and CloudTrail
- Scripting AWS (AWS CLI, CloudFormation, and using the AWS APIs)
- Creating and maintaining a DevOps pipeline in AWS (tools like Jenkins, Chef, Ansible)
- VPCs, Subnets and designing for security
- Ability to present architecture to clients of varying levels, from Developers, Business Analysts and Senior Client Leadership
- Practical experience developing multi-tier enterprise applications in Java, C# or any other object-oriented language
- Core experience as a DevOps Engineer in a 24x7 uptime Amazon AWS environment, including automation experience with configuration management tools.
- Monitoring Tools: Experience with machine-generated big data searching, monitoring and analysis using tools such as Splunk.
- Strong experience in the CI/CD pipeline using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, SonarQube, Maven, TwistLock etc. Special emphasis on integrating the tools to form the pipeline.
- Strong scripting (e.g. CloudFormation, TerraForm) and automation skills.
- Linux and Windows system administration.
- Understanding network topologies and common network protocols and services (DNS, HTTP(S), SSH, FTP, SMTP).
- Problem Solving: Ability to analyze and resolve complex infrastructure resource and application deployment issues.
- Core experience as a DevOps Engineer in a 24x7 uptime Amazon AWS environment, including automation experience with configuration management tools.
- Monitoring Tools: Experience with machine-generated big data searching, monitoring and analysis using tools such as Splunk.
