Position Description

The Computer Operator III shall possess knowledge in all functional areas associated with providing Military Personnel service support, be familiar with government policies and procedures, possess good analytical, and time management skills, and be an independent thinker.



Duties (Required)

Knowledge of computing systems operations terminology; proper office methods and practices; personal computing operations and hardware; operational requirements of networked personal computer systems; personal computing applications including Word, Excel, and others; Windows/DOS operating systems; modern computer techniques, methodologies, principles, and practices. Be flexible and receptive to change.
Operation of multi-processing computers and a variety of peripheral and communication equipment in the production of necessary reports, records and other documents; quality control of data and reports; job control setup and scheduling; office operations; and organizing, maintaining, processing and distributing reports. Has the ability to: acquire necessary knowledge to operate electronic computer systems in a large data communications environment; operate and maintain networked personal computer systems; follow manuals and read complicated instructions; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; use appropriate and correct English, spelling, grammar and punctuation; perform arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy; type at a rate required for successful job performance; operate a variety of standard office equipment; work independently; communicate effectively in written and oral form; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Operates and monitors computer systems and related equipment including; mainframes, mini computers, micro computers, personal computers, printers and other peripheral devices; controls the performance of multiprocessing systems in a large networked, data communications and telecommunications environment.
Capable of planning, organizing and coordinating daily schedules for all computerized batch processing and job control set up.
Verifies and distributes with accuracy and completeness, all computer reports and output requested by users and the Data Center staff.
Responsible for the error logging, customer engineering or internal staff notification of all system hardware, software and application system problems.
Establishes and maintains accurate data records and filing systems to be used in the production and updating of relevant operational records and reports.
Maintains computer systems and peripheral devices at scheduled times or as necessary; monitors the computer room for the proper security and environmental temperature, humidity, and power controls.
Utilizes personal computing hardware and software, word-processing, spreadsheet, and database applications to perform basic duties including documentation, reporting, scheduling and user support.
May be required to perform operations during critical demand periods, emergency situations, or scheduled vacations.
Creates or modifies job streams to improve computer operations.
Ability to organize and prioritize jobs to be processed.
Works cooperatively with various areas of Information Technology, for example: applications, systems, helpdesk, and other areas.
Operates software diagnostic tools.
Observes machines operations and makes adjustments as necessary.
Operational knowledge and experience using MS Access prefferred

Specific Skills and Requirements

Required:

Candidate shall be able to maintain a NACI clearance.
Shall have experience work experience; knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.
Must have customer service; proficient written and oral communication skills; all standard office equipment (including printers, copiers, scanners, telephones); comfortable talking on the phone and in person; possess confident and engaging presenting skills (if required to conduct briefings); data input; and preparing and checking standardized reports, memos, correspondence, presentations, and filing.
Receives, schedules, and makes proper disposition of telephone calls coming into the office.
Makes administrative arrangements for conferences and meetings, apprises participants of necessary details, and ensures that all references and background documents are available.
Performs other job related duties as assigned


Education and Experience (Required)

Prefer an Associate of Arts Degree in a computer-related technology or equivalent experience
Five (5) years of experience, is preferred
Shall have the ability to proficiently communicate in the English language
May be required to possess a notary and provide notary services
