Job Description:

The Senior Policy Advisor (full-time) is a subject matter expert and global technical leader on US abortion law and policy. In collaboration with key staff across the organization, the Senior Policy Advisor leads Ipas research and advocacy work on US abortion policy and provides education and guidance to the organization. The Senior Policy Advisor develops and maintains partnerships with colleague agencies and government representatives. They are also responsible for increasing Ipas visibility among partners, donors, the media, and government officials in Washington DC. The Senior Policy Advisor also has responsibility for raising funds for US policy, cultivating relationships with donors and developing donor proposals.


Primary Responsibilities




  • Provides leadership and expertise for the organization on US foreign policy issues, educating staff, monitoring impact, and providing guidance on the Global Gag Rule and Helms Amendment.

  • Advocates for US policy that supports abortion, especially for women in the Global South

  • Partners appropriately to ensure leadership for Ipas on US abortion policy in Washington, DC., cultivating existing and new partners.

  • Researches, writes and develops resources on key US abortion policy issues.

  • Creates and disseminates internal education materials to Ipas staff to ensure subject matter currency among affected individuals and teams.

  • Manages US foreign Policy related development efforts, drafting core policy proposals and reports.

  • Provides external leadership, representation, and advocacy as required in Washington, DC

  • Supports fundraising initiatives by identifying and cultivating relationships with donors, contributing to donor proposals and preparation/review of donor reports.

  • Reports regularly and effectively to the Senior Legal Advisor, Technical Innovation and Evidence.

  • Other duties as assigned



Minimum




  • Advanced degree in law, public policy, or related field

  • 7+ years of experience

  • Program planning experience

  • Strong technical content in abortion rights and policy issues

  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changes in strategy

  • Knowledge of key partners and influencers in the field

  • Experience working in multicultural teams

  • Strong commitment to the Ipas mission

  • Excellent written and spoken English

  • Ability to work independently and meet Ipas remote employee requirement

  • Ability to travel up to 20%



Preferred




  • Working knowledge of budget oversight

  • Experience working in a non-profit organization

  • Established relationships with non-profit organizations and advocacy groups, as well as policymakers

  • Fluency in commonly spoken languages in the countries in which Ipas works
