Job Description:
 About This Position The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine has an exciting career opportunity for a Research Associate 1. This position is responsible for undertaking experiments on small animals and performing surgery, histological, biochemical, immunological and behavioral tasks for the advancement of research projects in collaboration with other laboratory staff as well as the organization of laboratory data and resources (paper and electronic).
The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:
- Perform procedures and analysis associated with surgical and behavioral assessment of sensory and motor function in rodents following experimental spinal cord injury including, animal surgeries (laminectomy, spinal cord injury, tracing), animal post-operative care, animal perfusion and tissue dissection, tissue sectioning.
- Perform immuno-histological staining, fluorescent and confocal microscopy imaging and stereological analysis of CNS tissue.
- Maintain an electronic repository of datasheets, ACUC/IBC protocols, chore lists and laboratory resources in SharePoint to be readily available to the supervisor and other staff when needed.
- The position will require frequent after hours and weekend work with animal care and management.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study. Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Commitment to the University's core values. Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
