About This Position

The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate. This position will support interdisciplinary translational research programs as well as interact with the department's faculty, scientists, fellows and support staff in relevant training activities. Existing research is focused on utilizing a variety of methods and models to define the molecular and cellular mechanisms of susceptibility to acute, chronic and neuropathic pain, with the ultimate goal of developing novel diagnostics, preventatives and therapeutics.

The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:



  • Master the experimental setup of multiple animal models of pain

  • Use electrophysiological techniques to describe cellular responses of biotherapeutics

  • Identify and validate gene candidates for susceptibility to chronic pain

  • Characterize candidate gene expression and functions and determine the effects on mechanisms of deseases

  • Utilizing in vitro analyses and model systems to identify and validate the role of candidates in molecular mechanisms of disease

  • Develop gene transfer constructs and monitor their expression and functional impact in vitro and in vivo including cloning, sequencing, transcriptomic, proteomic and genomic analyses

  • Will perform all necessary experiments including molecular/cellular studies of human variants expressed in mouse/human cells, and mouse in vivo

  • Perform in vitro exploratory disease-oriented research

  • Process and analyze clinical trial samples, data analysis and presentation

  • Contribute to experimental design and planning

  • Participate in and contribute toward scientific publications, presentations and grant submissions

  • Training on advanced methods in neuroscience

  • Weekly meetings to assess progress

  • Grant proposal to support training and projects



Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in a life science field of study or M.D., or other doctoral-level degree. Experience with in vivo and/or in vitro models of pain or basic neuroscience, molecular and cellular biology, immunohistochemistry, quantitative PCR, siRNA, ELISA, microarray technology, cloning, molecular genetics and transgenic model is preferred. Able to work in interdisciplinary setting, effectively and seamlessly with other researchers. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty inside and outside the lab. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability and willingness to teach and mentor students, other fellows, and junior faculty working in the labs. Problem solving and ability to integrate detailed analysis into larger context. Basic statistical analyses of data and presentation skills.
