Job Description:

About This Position

We are searching for two highly-motivated Postdoctoral Associates with strong research experience in molecular/cellular biology and animal research. These positions are part of a new NIH-funded project to investigate disease mechanisms and develop novel therapies at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the University of Miami School of Medicine.

Research will focus on developing next-generation targeted therapies for vascular, degenerative diseases and cancers. The laboratory recently developed the only technology of ligandomics with broad applicability to discover high-quality drug targets for novel therapies of different diseases (PMID: 29326083). Using this powerful technology, we discovered highly promising therapeutic targets and developed disease-selective targeted therapies (PMID: 28330905). This project will investigate pathogenic role and therapeutic potential of disease-selective proteins, including cellular ligands. These include characterization of therapeutic proteins in vitro and in vivo, analysis of other newly-identified novel drug targets, and ligandomics screening to discover additional unknown therapeutic targets. Our recent publications can be found at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/myncbi/wei.li.2/bibliography/40172985/public/?sort=date&direction=descending.

The research activities are to: 1) characterize molecular mechanisms of pathogenic proteins in vitro and in vivo; 2) investigate the therapeutic potential of different proteins to treat diseases in animal models; 3) analyze the toxicology and pharmacokinetics of new therapeutic reagents in animal models; 4) ligandomics analysis to discover new targets; and 5) write postdoctoral fellowships. After initial training, Postdoctoral Associates will independently investigate the mechanisms and characterize therapeutic proteins in vitro and in vivo.

Bascom Palmer Eye Institute has been ranked as the #1 eye hospital in the past 15 consecutive years (2004 -2017) by U.S. News and World Report.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. and/or MD, have productive scientific contributions through publication of high impact peer-reviewed papers, and show strong commitment to science. Recipients of recent PhD or MD degree are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants with training experience in molecular biology, cell biology, protein biochemistry, immunohistochemistry and animal research are highly desired. Experience in bioinformatics analysis is a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. These positions represents an excellent opportunity for career development.

If interested, you must complete and submit an online employment application and you are more than welcome to send a CV, 1-2 page summary/Cover letter describing past accomplishments and 3 references, including contact information to Dr. Wei Li at . Positions are available immediately.
