Salary Range and Max Salary

The salary range for this classification is:$4,372 - $10,792 monthly.
Placement within the salary range is commensurate with experience.

The Information Technology Division is responsible for providing leadership and support in information
technology for the entire CSU Dominguez Hills community. The Division promotes IT solutions that
improve the teaching, learning, research, and administrative environment of the University. The Vice
President/CIO provides overall management five groups: Infrastructure Services Department consists of
telephone services, network services, server operations and administration. The Project Management
group consists of desktop support, help desk and training. The Enterprise Application group consists of
development, web services and student information services. The Academic Technology Department
consists of classroom technical support, instructional design, instructional lab and media support. The
Office of University Effectiveness, Planning, and Analytics is responsible for producing official
information for the campus, conducting research on policy matters, providing actionable reports and
data, and investigating selected educational issues.
Under general supervision of the Director of Academic Technology/ATO, the Instructional Technology
Support Specialist will build and maintain faculty development structures necessary to provide for
successful face to face, hybrid and online teaching and learning, and coordinate these activities across
CSUDH colleges where appropriate. The position will support and promote the effective use of
instructional technology, especially in active learning classrooms. The incumbent will act as a liaison
between Academic Technology and the colleges to consult with, train, and support faculty utilizing active
learning and other instructional trends. The candidate will perform outreach including data collection,
information sharing, consultation, training, and collaborative workshops and presentations; will evaluate
and consult on learning space designs and technology installations; and will help develop new
technology implementation strategies.
The tools provided by the learning management system (LMS) are used by nearly all students and most
faculty to support high standards of teaching and learning, both in the classroom and at a distance. This
position is part of a team of instructional technologists who share a wide range of duties each team
member also has his/her own special focus. In this case, the special focus is scheduling and leading
user training and workshops related to the LMS, instructional technologies and online learning.
Required Education: Bachelors Degree in computer science, information systems, educational
technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields
Preferred Education: Master¿s degree in a relevant field.
Required Experience: Three to five (3-5) years of experience in instructional technology or a
related field of information technology.
Preferred Experience: Experience with instructional design strategies and techniques to meet
instructional technology and distance learning needs of higher education in both undergraduate and
graduate levels. Experience with database management, and web-based learning and its application to
university instruction. Professional activity in research, writing, and/or presenting about
distance learning. Experience with Learning Management Systems, preferably in higher education.
Experience working with faculty to develop and deliver effective courses, especially at a distance
learning. Experience using web site development code and/or software for the design and creation of
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Ability to develop relationships with faculty members to assist them in using instructional
technology in their delivery of face to face, hybrid and online learning.
-Knowledge of computer systems and audio visual systems used to deliver course materials.
-Knowledge in online learning management systems to include Blackboard.
-Ability to work independently on projects, coordinate activities with faculty and staff, complete
projects within budget and timelines and insure quality of work.
-Ability to work in teams to maintain positive relations with co-workers.
-Ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and orally and follow written and oral
-Demonstrated ability in providing exceptional training experiences preferably in higher education.
-Demonstrated ability using personal computers and a variety of software, such as word processing,
spreadsheet, database and the internet, including an awareness of general computer use concepts
(Windows and Mac).
-Interpreting instructional requirements documents and student learning outcome definitions.
-Writing clear and concise design documents.
-Using authoring tools such as HTML5, Dreamweaver, Office Suite, Flash.
-Familiarity with distance education concepts and educational/pedagogical theory.
Specialized Materials: The position uses a variety of personal computers, mainframe computers,
servers, and network peripherals.
60% - Active Learning Technology Training & Support:
- Maintain and deliver existing workshops and courses for faculty teaching face-to-face, hybrid,
and online and develop new ones as needed.
- Support and promote the effective use of instructional technology, especially in active learning
- Address functional and design issues involving online courseware for both students and faculty.
- Work with faculty one-on-one to provide recommendations for integration of technology, course
design and best practices in face-to-face, hybrid and online instruction.
- Continuously monitor the effectiveness of workshops and other faculty development activities in
Active Learning Classrooms and other learning spaces.
- Develop promotional announcements for workshops and courses.
- Train and assist faculty in best practices for using a variety of technology in instruction to
student centric experience; develop materials and train faculty in the use of smart classrooms.
30% - Technical Support:
- Assist fac basic technical problems with the learning management system
(LMS); investigate and seek solutions to complex issues regarding online teaching and learning.
- Assist faculty and students requesting equipment and provide routine classroom technology support
and equipment maintenance activities.
- Provide support to faculty and students through the coordination of operations and technical
services of Active Learning Spaces to ensure operational efficiency.
5% - Participate in department meetings and other CSUDH meetings as necessary. 5% - Other duties as
