University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center. Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center (UHCC), Population Sciences in the Pacific (PSP) Program, located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY: Salary commensurate with qualifications.

DUTIES: Participates in all components of the National Cancer Institute (NCI)-funded Postdoctoral Training Program “Multidisciplinary Training in Ethnic Diversity and Cancer Disparities”, a collaborative effort of UHCC and the University of Southern California (USC). Identifies new research questions and designs analyses based on epidemiologic data (including diet and anthropometric variables) and molecular epidemiological data acquired from ongoing epidemiological investigations in Multiethnic Cohort participants. Performs statistical analysis of research data from the Multiethnic Cohort to evaluate factors relating to cancer risk and survival. Writes manuscripts for publication based on the results, presents findings in professional forums, and participates in the development of new grant applications. Works closely with study investigators, program staff, programmers, and biostatisticians at UHCC and USC to meet study goals.

Job Requirements:
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: PhD, DrPH, or MD/MPH from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a related discipline. EXPERIENCE: One to three (1-3) years of experience in statistical analysis of complex datasets, writing manuscripts for publication in high-impact peer-reviewed scientific journals, and presenting at national or international scientific conferences. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Knowledge of epidemiologic study designs, and statistical analysis techniques for population studies. Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien due to the requirements of the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) (T32 grant). Ability to think critically and creatively as part of a fast-paced research team. Must possess proven manuscript writing skills. Proficiency in statistical analysis using R, SAS or Stata. Strong communication skills. Must possess proven organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy, desire to learn, and timeliness of work. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. Must complete Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Human Subject training within one (1) month from date of hire. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds unassisted. POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS: As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to the University of Hawai‘i's Cancer Center HIPAA/PHI privacy and security policy. Violation of the RCUH's, the UH's, or the business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.). Must complete the University of Hawai‘i's Cancer Center HIPAA/PHI privacy and security training immediately after hire or not later than employee’s initial exposure to HIPAA/PHI. Must maintain a current status on the University’s and/or the business entity's training requirements.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with study data collection. Experience in analyzing dietary or nutritional data in prospective epidemiologic studies. Knowledge of cancer biology and terminology. Desire to pursue a career in an academic research environment. Hands on experience conducting molecular biological studies, preferred. Previous experience working on cancer and other chronic diseases, preferred.
