Job Description:
TCC is a comprehensive community college located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, just 35 miles south of Seattle. We are a diverse, creative, and engaging institution - recognized nationally as an Achieving the Dream “Leader College.” The main campus of TCC occupies 150 acres with over 30 buildings and a total area exceeding 495,962 square feet. The college also maintains and operates a 13,000 square foot satellite campus building in Gig Harbor.

TCC currently has a full-time position vacancy scheduled to work as follows: Sunday, 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm, and Monday through Thursday, 5:00 pm to 1:30 am. Summer Schedule will be Monday through Thursday, 5:00 pm to 3:30 am returning to the Academic year schedule in mid-September. The salary range is $2,282 to $2,911 per month plus $1.00 per hour shift differential. The successful candidate must be willing to work varying shifts & hours to meet business needs. Position Summary:
Perform custodial tasks to maintain cleanliness and care of facilities at Tacoma Community College. This position reports to the Custodial Supervisor.


Essential Functions
• Clean and sanitize college facilities including public access areas, restrooms, toilets, shower rooms and fixtures in accordance with established procedures and standards; refill restroom dispensers.
• Clean whiteboards; dust and wipe furniture; sweep, mop or vacuum floors; wash windows; empty wastebaskets, trash, and recycle containers and set clocks.
• Strip, clean, buff, and apply finish to floors; use and maintain high-speed floor buffers/polishers; vacuum and clean/shampoo carpets.
• Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools such as vacuum, broom, mop, squeegee, and ladder for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, windows and furniture.
• Lock and unlock buildings; secure buildings when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; and report unauthorized occupants.
• Follow written and/or verbal instructions regarding use of chemicals, supplies and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures; communicate maintenance needs and hazards to supervisor.
• Perform cleaning and related activities within reasonable distance from buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment to remove debris and to sweep entry ways and stairs.
• May be required to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle to transport trash and supplies to and from areas of responsibility. (Seatbelt required).
• Set-up and take down equipment, such as whiteboards and easels, and furnishings, such as folding chairs and tables needed for meetings, classrooms, conferences and events.
• Move & store supplies and materials.
• Perform related tasks as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Physical ability to do the work.
• One (1) custodial experience in a public facility.

Preferred Qualifications
• Two (2) years custodial experience in a public facility.


Conditions of Employment

• Successfully pass a criminal history background check prior to employment.
• Must possess a current valid, unrestricted driver's license or able to obtain one within 2 months of employment.
• Must be able to read, write and communicate efficiently.
• Ability to work overtime.
• Willing and able to work in adverse conditions such as rain, fog, ice, snow, wind, extreme ambient temperatures (heat or cold), and in small, cramped spaces.
• Willing to work in teams in daily work or on projects.
• Ability to climb and balance on ladders (up to 10 ft) to wash windows, dust, set clocks, etc.
• Ability to lift/move garbage bags and recycling boxes weighing up to 50lbs, and push/roll recycling bins, carpet cleaners, buffers etc. weighing up to 100lbs.
• Ability to walk, bend, stoop and stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions.
• Willing to work individually in daily work or on projects
