Job Description:

3 months contract position with possible extension or conversion to permanent for a GC Laboratory Technician in Norwell, MA

The position requires analysis of routine and non-routine samples on GC/FID, GC/ECD, and GC/MS systems. A knowledge base of these instrumental analyses is required. Preparing deliverable packages in accordance with written instructions and under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager and/or more experienced personnel. The ability to work independently is essential. Routine maintenance knowledge of the various GC systems is also preferred.

Activities will include, but at not limited to:

  • Initiate and perform sample analytical sequences following written SOPs and project QAPPs

  • Conduct and document appropriate quality control and assurance procedures for monitoring and evaluating the quality of sample preparation procedures. Communication with the project managers and the team leads.

  • Enter data and observations into LIMS

  • Operate and/or monitor, and maintain standard laboratory equipment such as GC/FID, GC/ECD, and GC/MS along with analytical balances, etc.

  • Perform simple mathematical calculations and prepare data for supervisors or researchers, as requested.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements in order to be forwarded for consideration:

Required Qualifications:

  • S./B.A. in chemistry or other physical science A.A. in chemistry and a minimum of two years of chemistry laboratory work experience.

  • A minimum of one year experience with GC/ECD, GC/FID, and/or GC/MS instrumentation and data reduction.

  • GC and GC/MS analysis preferably with Agilent Chemstation and Enviroquant.

  • LC/MS experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in the instrumentation (GC/ECD, GC/FID, and/or GC/MS) used in the assessment of environmental samples for chemical analysis with 2-3 years' experience.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Office tools

  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision or as part of a team

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills required.
