About This Position

A Research Associate 1 position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Serafini in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Miami. We are seeking motivated individuals with experience in cellular biology and high organizational and communication skills. Under general direction, this position assists the assistant scientist in the lab or other research investigators by performing research and experimentation support following established protocols as well as gradually start its own research project.

The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform general laboratory maintenance.

  • Responsible for maintaining animal colony.

  • Assist in in-vivo experiments with animal models and in processing and storing human samples for ongoing clinical trials.

  • Sets-up and operates various scientific apparatus as needed.

  • The Research Associate is the entry-level research professional position. Appointees will support research activities at the University.

  • The Research Associate will understand and interpret research protocols and procedures. The Research Associate will work under the direction of a principal investigator, program director, or designee of the principal investigator or program director, such as a assistant scientist or above.

  • Appointees will contribute to basic and applied research activities, participate in the publication of significant results, and advance their expertise through education, training and/or research experience.

  • Appointees are not expected to write extramural proposals nor independently to gain such support.

  • Prepares and maintains culture media reagents.

  • Orders laboratory supplies as needed.

  • Interprets experimental test data.

  • Performs various editorial duties.

  • Reviews and edits various materials for publication; prepares publication schedules; orders books and other publications as requested.

  • Attends and participates in meetings, conferences, and training groups as requested.

  • Records research procedures and results. Maintains records, codes data for input for electronic data processing inputs and retrieves data electronically.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant life science field of study. Prefer experience in cellular biology, working in sterile conditions, cell biology and molecular biology. Basic knowledge of medical, immunologic, an biological terminology preferred. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Detail orientated. Ability to maintain records and inventories. Capacity to follow protocols with minimal supervision. Availability to work extra hours and during week-end if necessary.
