About This Position

The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine has an exciting career opportunity for a Research Associate 3. The Research Associate 3 assumes responsibility for the design and performance of research focused on the development of novel experimental therapies for human malignancies. This position contributes to collaborations with scientists within the University of Miami or elsewhere. Moreover, the Research Associate 3 works as part of a team and assists with the maintenance of laboratory equipment, protocols, and supplies.

The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:



  • Perform experiments to determine the cellular pathways involved in the regeneration of axons from neurons. This involves in vitro experiments, working with cells transduced to express transgenes using viral vectors, and in vivo work with mice and rats.

  • Perform cell culture, including primary neurons; immunocytochemistry and phenotypic analysis

  • Perform molecular biology techniques (e.g., RNA extraction, DNA preparation, ligation and cloning, real time PCR and gel preparation.) Design and prepare vectors to modify the expression of transcription factors.

  • Perform immunohistochemical studies of tissue sections, including preparing the sections.

  • Perform protein extraction from cells/tissues and analytic techniques (e.g., gel electrophoresis, Western blotting)

  • Do computer-based analysis of data from various experiments. Keep detailed notebooks (electronic and paper based) describing experimental methods and results.

  • Maintain laboratory areas; order lab supplies

  • Assist in the preparation of publications on the findings after careful scrutiny of the results.

  • Keep a detailed and accurate record of all research performed and to assist in writing of grants.

  • Present findings at lab meetings and departmental functions.




Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant life science field of study as well as at least two years of relevant experience. Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Commitment to the University's core values. Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
