Job Description:
CharityWars is a fan driven gaming company with the mission to gamify charitable fundraising and civic engagement. Our gaming platform,, combines a competitive crowdfunding engine with narrative-driven multi-level “Trivia Adventures” that let players compete with each other to win money for their favorite Charitable Causes.

We are a close team, we love what we do, and we believe in what we are building. If you are interested in becoming a game designer or developer - come build something awesome with us.

You will have 2 months to research and gather the content on a topic that you love, craft a story or leveling pathway, balance the difficulty for each level, and create a playable Trivia Adventure. You will then have 1 month to beta test, get feedback, tweak like your life depended on it, and grow an early player base. If your adventure does well, you will have a working game with a live ongoing player community in 3 months. It will be something that will remain live and playable, can be easily shared as part of your game creator portfolio, and you will always be credited as it's creator on our site. (We also give nice completion certificates for the internship.)

You don’t need to be a coder or an artist, but you will have to work hard to understand your target audience and to craft and enjoyable multi-level adventure. If you are interested in game design, this is your make something fun and quickly playable, to apply gamification principles, to target a specific player base, to adjust for casual and expert players, to try marketing, graphic design, and story creation, and learn and improve from live player feedback. There are no coffee runs, copy making or busy work. You will have a lot of freedom to experiment, and to try different concepts. Our team will be there to give feedback and share our experience, but in end, this adventure will be fully yours to create.

This internship is a challenge. If you are ready for it. Come build with us.

Job Requirements:
As a company we strongly believe that game design is an art, not a technical skill. We are less concerned with your college, GPA or previous experience. You either love making games, and are willing to work hard at it, or you dont. In the end, that is all that matters. So we don’t stress about resumes and cover letters (although we are happy to read them) instead we use an “Entrance Challenge” as our main evaluation tool for all applicants.

To start the process, email us directly at You can include a resume and cover letter as well. We will email you a link to the instructions page for the Entrance Challenge.

The Challenge: You will pick a trivia topic of your choice, and then make a short, but playable quiz on it. We will give you very clear instructions and examples from our site on how to do it. It's not that hard, but will take some creativity. You will have to write your own questions, plan out 4 simple levels, think of some fun titles, maybe add some jokes, and do research for starting graphics. (And for extra points even think up of some badges for your quiz.) It can all be done in one day, but you will have a week if you need it. We will put up your quiz on our site (in hidden mode and you will be able to play it and see how it all comes together. (Which is actually lot of fun.) And after you start the internship, this quiz will work as the starting point for your 3 month project, and you will expand it into a full adventure.

Important for the Internship:
- A good knowledge of using Gdocs and other Google products. (A Gmail or Google account will be required.) You will also need a Facebook account for late game testing.
- Strong research skills, and an ability to work with varied sets of data and use spreadsheets.
- Solid English language skills. Our player base is American, Canadian, British and Australian. If you are not a native speaker, you will be working with a lot of text, and you will have to work much harder. And most of our work happens through chat and emails so you will need strong communication skills.
- This is a remote internship. You will be chatting with others on the team online, and there will be discussions and forums on game design, but you will need to be able to work independently and know how to motivate yourself.

Expected Time Commitment:
- Your hours will be flexible, but we expect a minimum 10-15 hours a week time commitment to qualify as an “active” week (and you can take breaks when needed for finals, family, travel etc.) which will be “non-active” weeks. The internship is successfully completed after logging in 12-14 active weeks.
- Acceptances are on a rolling basis - you can start at any time and continue for a minimum 12 week commitment. If you are having fun and learning you can extend the internship further and try out more parts of the game making process, from advanced marketing, to graphic design, to QA or working with the Dev Team.

Open Application Policy:
College Students, High School Students, Out of School, Working, Traveling, International Students and Non-US students looking for experience with a US Gaming company are all welcome to apply. This is a remote internship that can be done from anywhere, and with a lot of flexibility. We care about your passion for Game Design and your ability to learn and improve. Your work hours and location, as long as you find the time to create, are up to you.

This Internship is 100% Free:
It's unfortunate that we have to write this. But just to be clear. There are NO costs or fees to participate in this internship, or to receive your certificate on successful completion. And we will never ask you to spend your own money on anything related to this internship. As long as you have a computer and an internet connection, come build with us, and we will be happy to share our experience with you.
