Job Description:

The Advancement Division at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) is seeking a qualified candidate to join its Development team as a Major Gift Officer. TCNJ is a highly selective public institution located in Ewing, New Jersey - an ideal location approximately five miles from the state capital, and 60 minutes from both Philadelphia and New York City.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Development & Alumni Engagement, the Senior Director of Development will serve as an integral member of the Development team. Collaborating with the AVP they will lead in the creation of a strategic and aggressive major gifts plan, focusing on creative, thoughtful, and meaningful donor engagement. The Senior Director of Development will provide leadership and strategic direction to a team of development officers and develop and implement strategies that will lead to a high-performance fundraising culture. The Senior Director for Development is a seasoned leader/manager of fundraising teams in higher-education or similar not-for-profit institutions, and a successful fundraiser in their own right with demonstrated experience securing major gifts.

The Senior Director of Development is also charged with managing a portfolio of prospects. They will develop and implement strategies to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward potential major gift donors with the capacity to contribute $25,000 or more. The Senior Director of Development will solicit prospects and identify and motivate those alumni, faculty, volunteers, and friends who can advance the development function of the college.

They will be responsible for meeting an annual gift revenue target by working with an assigned portfolio of approximately 125 major gift donors and prospects to advance the mission of the College and to assist donors in meeting their philanthropic goals. Extensive experience in this regard is a prerequisite, in addition to a track record that underscores an ability to identify, qualify, cultivate and solicit, and steward very important alumni and friends of the College.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree is required and seven years of progressive experience in development or equivalent experience in sales, in addition to strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and work in a collaborative fashion. Knowledge of fundraising software systems and an understanding of prospect management are preferred. Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and to travel on regional day trips with occasional overnight travel required.
