Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Nurse or other certified CIC infection control and prevention professional.


Under indirect supervision, manages planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of infection prevention and control program across care continuum; collaborates with and makes recommendations to facility leadership to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies; assures facility policies and procedures in compliance with regulatory standards; identifies and implements infection control goals and objectives related to surveillance, data analysis and reporting, infection prevention and control practices; integrates programs/services with departmental, facility, and organizational goals; serves as resource in educating patients and staff; supervises assigned staff; serves as role model; demonstrates compliance and Principles of Responsibility; maintains confidentiality; protects organizational assets; exhibits ethics and integrity; adheres to applicable federal and state laws and regulations, accreditation and licensing requirements, policies and procedures; reports and/or resolves issues of non-compliance.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Infection Prevention and Control



  • Designs and implements surveillance/prevention programs for Clinic/ASC/procedure-related infections in Health Plan members.

  • Monitors and reports on infection trends in acute and ambulatory settings; develops applicable interventions.

  • Initiates epidemiological investigations of significant clusters of infection.

  • Institutes appropriate corrective action to protect patients and employees from transmission of communicable diseases.

  • Investigates member, physician, staff, and visitor exposure to communicable disease at clinics; coordinates follow-up of exposed persons.

  • Develops, implements, and conducts ongoing organization-wide education program in compliance with regulatory requirements and meeting customer needs.



  • Collaborates with facility leadership of outside agencies in case of infections or outbreaks of infection in members cared for in outside facilities.

  • Ensures organizations compliance with blood borne pathogen and TB exposure requirements of state and federal agencies.

  • Assists Washington State Department of Health in investigation of cases of communicable disease.

  • Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide care and/or service appropriate to age groups served.

  • Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide culturally sensitive care and/or service.

  • Ensures compliance in area(s) of accountability; maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations, accreditation and licensing requirements, policies and procedures; demonstrates compliance with code of conduct, serves as role model, resource, and advocate; demonstrates personal integrity and accountability for actions; ensures staff compliance; reports and/or resolves issues of non-compliance.

  • On regular, sustained basis, cooperates with other staff members both within and outside department in accomplishment of own job duties, as well as, assisting others in accomplishing theirs; serves as team player and role model for other employees in organization always exhibiting traits of courtesy, caring, helpfulness and respect; conducts oneself in service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, cooperative, sensitive, respectful and kind when dealing with members, visitors, public and all employees.

  • Performs other duties and accepts responsibility as assigned.


Consultation/Committees:



  • Serves as active member and consultant on various clinic committees.

  • Consults to Ambulatory surgery center, clinic staff and patients.

  • Coordinates special projects (e.g., National Hand Hygiene Initiative).

  • Communicates goals, objectives, accountabilities, priorities and authority parameters to stakeholders.



EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor's degree in science or related field. Equivalent combination of education & experience may be considered.

  • Five years infection control, case finding surveillance, education and prevention programs experience.

  • Certified Infection Control Professional (CIC) by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC) (must obtain within one year of hire).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant state, federal and accreditation agency requirements.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in the following:

    • quality management

    • system thinking
