Job Description:



The grant assistant monitors sponsored research accounts from award set up through closeout while adhering to University, state, and federal policies. Additionally, the grant assistant ensures that established budgets are not overspent, that grant periods are adhered to, that costs are allowable, and that accounting records are maintained in good order.



CORE JOB FUNCTIONS



Monitors budget distributions and reviews expense transactions to ensure accuracy and complete journal entries. Performs invoicing functions regularly and prepares financial reports. Reviews labor distribution transfers and associated events. Collaborates with other staff and departments for problem resolution and information gathering. Supports the sponsored programs department in education and training of principal investigators and administrators. Assesses needs and resolves issues related to grants accounting. Maintains current knowledge of federal regulations related to grants and single audits of state, local government, and non-profit organizations. Develops small grant applications under the guidance and direction of senior staff. Assists in the collection of documents, proposals, and attachments. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS



Education:

High School diploma or equivalent required, Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred



Certification and Licensing:

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience






Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:



  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.

  • Knowledge of budget control methods, policies, and procedures.

  • Ability to prepare financial and accounting records.

  • Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data.

  • Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate accounting data and results concisely.


Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget
