About This Position

The Hussman Institute for Human Genomics (HIHG) at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, is looking for a Research Associate 1 to work in the sequencing core of the Center for Genome Technology. The Research Associate 1 will be responsible for preparing samples for next-generation sequencing and genotyping projects. This entails operating various laboratory equipment, including liquid handling robots, PCR blocks and Illumina Sequencing and Genotyping equipment. Also entails analyzing data for quality and consistency, troubleshooting equipment and protocols, preparing reports on progress/trends and making appropriate recommendations to supervisors.

The interdisciplinary and highly-collaborative faculty of the HIHG aims to discover the genetic influences on human health and apply this knowledge to the practice of medicine through improved diagnostics, treatments, and medications. The faculty has a unique track record, identifying genetic risk factors for more than 60 diseases and totting funding of more than $34 million from the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Department of Defense.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree is required for the position. Prior experience with the Illumina Sequencing and Genotyping instruments and aforementioned protocols is a plus. The ability to work in an interdisciplinary team is expected. Ability to successfully complete CITI training within the first 30 days of employment. Must be willing to attain an ASCP certification in Molecular Biology and State of Florida License in Molecular Pathology after hiring (if you do not already have one).
