Job Description: The Kim lab in the Department of Pharmacology at the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine, Chicago is actively recruiting a highly motivated technician to fill a Visiting Research Specialist position. Our lab utilizes cutting-edge microscopy and genetic approaches to identify the role of innate myeloid cells in inflammatory diseases, with special interest in monocyte and macrophage contributions to inflammation and tissue repair/ remodeling in the respiratory track.
60% Assist the principle investigator and other research staff with experimental sample preparation and collection. Common tasks will include reagent preparation, handling animals, antibody staining tissues/cells for fluorescence imaging, cutting tissue slides for histology, counting cells, and performing basic data acquisition. Keeping detailed records of all experiments and participate in preparing collected data for presentation. Recognize a diversity of problem solving skills and how they can lead to better solutions.
40% Perform lab duties, such as maintaining animal colony, ordering general lab supplies, and overseeing appropriate regulatory documentation within the laboratory (e.g., controlled substances, lab safety, animal colony). Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or related Biomedical and a minimum of 3 years related research experience. Field or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years. Demonstrated ability to work with a team of colleagues from diverse communities and cultures.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with animals in a biomedical laboratory setting. Basic knowledge in flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, database management, or bioinformatics would be considered advantageous.
