The Network Engineer will provide support for design, development, sustainment, and optimization of applications related to production applications, operating systems, and virtual machines.
Coordinate and/or perform additions and changes to network hardware and operating systems, and attached devices; includes investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new network hardware and software. Provide direct support in the day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems, including the evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems. Troubleshoot at the physical level of the network, working with network measurement hardware and software, as well as physical checking and testing of hardware devices at the logical level working with communication protocols. Maintain network infrastructure standards including network communication protocols such as TCP/IP. Provide technical consultation, training and support to IT staff as designated by the government.
Develops and leads technical projects. Provides fact-finding and research as required for the project. May design operational test and evaluations based on research and analysis. Establishes and recommends changes to policies which affect subordinate organization(s). Provides guidance to others to achieve goals in accordance with established policies. Will have both on-site and on-call duties; expected to respond to outages off-hours.
Works on complex problems where analysis of situation or data requires an in-depth evaluation of conflicting factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Ensures project schedules and performance requirements are met.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in a related technical field and 6+ years related experience.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITY:
Experience with the following is essential:
- Troubleshooting of deployed IT systems, with specific focus on system applications
- Administration of Linux and Windows systems
- Requirements interpretation and decomposition
- Software development methodologies, including testing
- Software coding techniques
- Cybersecurity implementations.
Experience with the following is highly desirable:
- Network Administration
- SQL Server and Oracle database management
- Apache Web server administration
- Tomcat Application Server administration
