About This Position

The John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics is seeking a Research Analyst. The successful candidate will work with senior Bioinformatics personnel and research informatics faculty to process massively parallel sequencing data and perform bioinformatics analyses to aide in improving the understanding of genomic variation in human health and disease. Responsibilities include maintaining and running developed and validated workflows including: data quality control, DNA and RNA alignment, and variant calling. The candidate will be responsible for data management and respond to requests from the sequencing core for quality control information or data locations. Opportunities exist for the successful applicant to work on small and large-scale multidisciplinary research projects in collaboration with the Center for Genome Technologies and development of clinical genomics data analysis. The successful applicant will also be involved in testing and validating new bioinformatics tools for possible inclusion or updates to current pipelines or in the development of new workflows.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/ Computational Biology/ Biological science preferred. Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux environments 1 year of relevant experience. Ability to learn on the job basic computer scripting skills such as R and/or python. Ability to work in a fast moving interdisciplinary team environment. Ability to trouble shoot effectively in problem solving and have high standards for checking and tracking the quality of their work product. Some experience with cluster computing, knowledge of resource management and job scheduling (e.g. LSF) is desired. Anyappropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
