CCR POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH SPECIALIST (CARDIOVASCULAR SCIENCE) – ID# 18607.

John A. Burns School of Medicine. Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) Center of Cardiovascular Research (CCR), located at the Biosciences Research Building in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $2,957/Mon.

DUTIES: Investigates the role of signaling pathways involved in cardiac fibroblast development and inflammation. Responsible for data collection and analysis. Evaluates fibroblasts using molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, and histology. Performs in situ hybridization, microarray analysis, and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) experiments. Maintains mouse colony. Performs echocardiography and flow cytometry.



Job Requirements:
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: PhD from an accredited college or university in Molecular Biology, Molecular Immunology, Developmental Biology, or Cell Biology. EXPERIENCE: Some experience with mouse husbandry, molecular biology, and histology. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Knowledge of cardiovascular biology, developmental biology, and mouse molecular genetics. Ability to perform frozen sectioning, quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), ribonucleic acid (RNA) extraction, tissue preparation, and genotyping. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must complete the online Hazard Communication training immediately after hire or no later than employee’s initial exposure to hazardous chemicals. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to enroll in the Occupational Health and Safety program which includes completing a health history questionnaire and obtaining medical clearance to work with animals in a vivarium. SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience with animal models of cardiovascular biology, flow cytometry, and modern molecular biology techniques. Ability to independently run flow cytometry experiments.
