Job Description:

The John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has an exciting career opportunity for a Research Associate 1 to work in the genotyping Core of the Center for Genome Technology. This position will work in analyzing DNA samples for multiple projects. The Research Associate 1 will be responsible for sample prep and genotyping using various platforms including Illumina, ABI QuantStudio and Affymetrix.

The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:



  • Perform genotyping on human DNA samples following protocols from Illumina, Affymetrix, and Applied Biosystems/Life Technologies.

  • Perform standard and specialized molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid preparation/quantification, cloning, PCR, nucleic acid sequencing, and other specific techniques as required.

  • Responsible for quantitation and qualitation of DNA by Nanodrop and Qubit and gel electrophoresis.

  • Operate various lab equipment including but not limited to centrifuges, hybridization ovens, Illumina iscan, Tecan Evo 150 robots based on the requirements of their given protocol.

  • Demonstrate an ability to learn new technologies and standard operating protocols in a timely manner.

  • Communicate procedures in written and/or verbal form with the other team members in the lab.

  • Prioritize and complete research in a timely, reproducible manner independently and within teams.

  • Analyze data for quality and consistency and troubleshoot equipment and report issues to supervisor.

  • Submit results in a timely manner to the supervisor.

  • Review journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous experiments to aid in the design and development of original procedures and techniques.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study. Prior experience in PCR DNA sequencing and snp analysis is a plus. The ability to work in an interdisciplinary team is expected.
