BIOINFORMATICS JUNIOR RESEARCHER – ID# 18642.

John A. Burns School of Medicine. Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), Office of Bioinformatics Core, Department of Complementary & Integrative Medicine, located at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, Kaka’ako Campus on Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $3,260/Mon.

DUTIES: Analyzes high-throughput, microarray, next- and third-generation sequencing “omics” data, including data from genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, and metagenomics experiments. Interacts closely with physician scientists and bioscience researchers to facilitate precision medicine development by interpreting vast amounts of “omics” and clinical data. Assists in the preparation of grant applications. Writes peer-reviewed Abstracts publications. Contributes to data management and research methods development. Focuses on NIH (R-01) funded translational medicine study and identifying biomarkers for early detection of cancer and prediction of clinical outcomes of cancer treated with different strategies. The projects are highly valuable for clinical use with potential industrial application as well as with great basic scientific knowledge. Performs with one (1) or more of the most updated "omic" technologies including transcriptomics, epigenomics and next-generation sequencing. Participates in bioinformatics data analysis. Writes manuscripts and supervises graduate students. Conducts other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related field. Must be able to present a publication record. EXPERIENCE: Experience using Statistics software. Experience in UNIX-like operating systems. Experience working in bioinformatics projects. Experience with high-performance computing environments. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Knowledge of advanced Bioinformatics techniques applicable to clinical research. Familiar with medical terminology. Ability to be flexible, work on multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Biomarker analysis experience is preferred. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. Must complete Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Human Subject training within three (3) months from date of hire. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Moderate physical effort. Must be able to lift and/or carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted. POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS: As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to the University of Hawai‘i's JABSOM HIPAA/PHI privacy and security policy. Violation of the RCUH's, the UH's, or the business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.). Must complete the University of Hawai‘i's JABSOM HIPAA/PHI privacy and security training immediately after hire or not later than employee’s initial exposure to HIPAA/PHI. Must maintain a current status on the University’s and/or the business entity's training requirements.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Strong interpersonal skills. Responsible, organized, dependable, and efficient. PhD from an accredited college or university in Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related field.
