Provide leadership, expertise, and practical support for Corning SMS Management systems, processes, and tools. Responsible to lead development of Safety standards, SMS governance processes, and improvement strategy with roadmap for sustainable performance. Provide strategic and tactical leadership to Corning Incorporated facilities to achieve a position of compliance or better with all existing federal, state, local regulations and corporate requirements applicable to safety and occupational health. This role requires working within complex manufacturing structure at a plant, division and corporate (Corning Inc.) level. The work is multi-dimensional in the areas of regional, legal and corporate regulations and compliance. It involves influencing sustainable change in cultural and technical aspects of manufacturing at all levels of the organization. Management involves working in a matrix organization structure with plant Safety and Corporate Safety teams driving solutions in cooperation with plant operations, engineering and technology resources.
Report to the SMS Director of Safety on all aspects of SMS Management systems, process performance and improvements.
Take lead responsibility for the day-to-day running of organizational governance, including assisting the Director of Corporate Safety in providing a range of department administrative/infrastructure duties.
Take responsibility for the coordination of organizational risk management, collaborating with business continuity team, ensuring that a risk culture is embedded in the organization and Corporate leadership have a clear understanding of risk across the company.
Act as the in-house expert on the full range of governance and compliance issues, supporting colleagues and partner organizations in ensuring activities are compliant with appropriate measures and contingencies are in place
Manage, maintain and administer SMS governance and compliance Standards and processes, including keeping them up to date as legislation or Corning operational context changes.
Lead governance process to develop consistent Safety Standard for all manufacturing locations that incorporates local codes and regulations, and best-in-class Corporate standards for all people Corning employees, contractors, and visitors.
Develop, manage and drive Safety Governance to ensure Safety Standards, Global Program initiatives and Global metrics are being implemented, maintained, improved and sustained.
Manage Safety Standards and other process documents and records to ensure proper storage, availability via SharePoint, and revisions as necessary.
Establish clear systems and audit trail for Standards and processes
Coordinate risk awareness campaigns and compliance training programs.
Develop strategies and tactical action plans which will most effectively result in regulatory compliance.
Provide coaching, training, instruction and guidance for facility personnel with responsibilities for safety and health process elements.
Overseeing and driving internal and external compliance audits and follow-up activities.
Manage SMS assessment and audit programs and perform assessments at Corning operations.
Develop compliance, risk and governance operational and strategic roadmaps; Creating risk, compliance and governance metrics and maturity level reports.
Develop and deploy Safety Improvement training that appropriately targets all levels of the organization Business Leadership, Manufacturing Leadership and all aspects of Manufacturing Operations/Engineering and Functional Groups.
Assist facilities during regulatory inspections to achieve satisfactory resolution of safety and health related issues.
Manage global compliance and risk management data, reporting and metrics, including, but not limited to, injury and illness data, compliance gap analysis, data, sustainability data and training completion data
Prepare compliance and risk management materials needed to make meeting and events successful
Assist with corporate-wide communications by updating content on SharePoint and other communication platforms, and partnering with Corporate Communications for large-scale communication initiatives
Support maintenance of legacy Safety data
Perform global administrative tasks as needed
Develop and lead presentations to internal customers, teams as required
Perform other related duties as assigned
Key Skills And Experience Required
Candidates must have a minimum of 10 yrs experience in Global EHS and these areas:
Strong organizational and time management skills are essential.
Excellent written and communication skills; both global organization and executive presentation skills.
Accustomed to working in a fast paced, collaborative, and matrixed environment
Excellent IT skills with the ability to build proficiency with business-specific software
Strong mastery of Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
A strong interest in EHS requirements and EHS career path
Detail-oriented, concise and strong sense of urgency
Ability to prioritize workloads, work in high pressure situations, and work to strict deadlines
A demonstrable track record of developing effective governance systems including audit of governance
Demonstrated understanding of the regulatory environment in multinational settings
Experience interacting and negotiation with regulatory and industry bodies
Strong working knowledge of EPA, OSHA, and Risk Assessment legislation
Experience at managing compliance data and generating internal reports, papers and providing information to internal and external customers
Experience in managing audits and inspections
Experience in identifying compliance issues and developing practical corrective actions
Experience in building and maintaining a compliance framework and developing obligation registers
Demonstrated manufacturing experience on a global basis international work experience in multiple plant environments and cultures.
25% travel domestic and international for up to 2 week durations.
Minimum BA (MS preferred) Science, Safety, or related degree or Industrial Engineering considered with demonstrated manufacturing experience in Safety Engineering.
