Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware, and equipment to be a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data, and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments, and individuals for their own use.
Please Note: This role can be based out of Wilmington, NC, Concord, NC, or Newton, NC.
Role Purpose: Will proactively investigate, analyze, and resolve supplier quality problems by conducting audits, analyzing defect trends, and leading continuous improvement projects. This position works closely with other functions within the organization (Global Supplier Management (GSM), Manufacturing, R&D, & Engineering) and is responsible for the maintaining quality of raw materials and validation when new materials are being considered. This role has global responsibility for supplier management, focus on development and deployment of systems including synchronization and integration. This position reports to OFC Division Quality Manager
Works with external vendors, suppliers to ensure consistent quality standards and protocols exist and are followed rigorously for materials, supplies and manufactured goods.
Champion problem solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers to eliminate recurrence of non‐conformances.
Aide manufacturing in the evaluation and qualification of new supplier materials following a defined new product development process.
Develop long‐term supplier relationships and generate and implement cost reduction ideas.
Work to resolve supplier technical issues in a timely manner to ensure continuity of supply.
Strategically lead supplier performance improvement projects in an effort to increase the supplier capability of consistently meeting material specification requirements. Projects may include: using PQA, PeX, Six Sigma tools, DMAIC, FMEA, DOE, MSA, process analysis, value stream mapping, process capability and throughput analysis.
Work with GSM to ensure supplier performance is regularly reported and that appropriate and timely corrective actions are implemented.
Maintain and update critical supplier audit system and schedule.
Drive Zero Defect mentality within the supply base.
Conduct supplier audits as needed to drive process standardization, waste elimination, and continuous improvement.
Will be responsible to monitor, communicate and improve key supplier KPIs.
Instills a Quality oriented culture in which everyone feels ownership for Quality and acts accordingly.
Coordinates and facilitates benchmarking and communication of standard methodologies across division team.
Maintain and lead division in cost of total quality data tracking, global standardization and building initiatives to drive costs down.

Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent technical degree.
Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing quality or process engineering experience.
Experience working with suppliers and driving improvements
Experience leading teams and departments in meeting continuous improvement goals, making step change process improvements, PEx problem resolution.
Demonstrated leadership capability, ability to influence others, act with integrity
Experience in role with direct customer interaction (Applications Engineer, Customer Service, Technical rep, Auditors, etc.)
Experience in New Product Development or New Product introduction.
Exposure to DARM (records retention) and/or ISO9000 standards
Performance Excellence Certified Green Belt.
