Job Description:


Reporting to the Senior Director - Potato Marketing, the individual will manage all aspects of the marketing mix for both the McCain brand and store brands within the Retail Potato portfolio. The Senior Brand Manager will act as the strategic business leader with Sales, Innovation and other functional groups within the organization. Responsibilities include developing annual and long range business plans, portfolio design and strategy, value proposition development, forecasting, media and promotional plans, innovation strategy and management, business performance analysis, and P&L management.


  • Provide category expertise and leadership for the US Retail Potato portfolio including business fundamentals, P&L management, industry trends, market structure, segment/customer needs and competitive landscape

  • Manage daily portfolio activities for both McCain branded and store brand/private label portfolio

  • Develop annual and long range strategic plans for the portfolio, identify growth opportunities and implement key strategies and tactics to enable delivery of financial objectives

  • Work with Sales to deliver the budget, manage and set pricing, build total value proposition, support trade shows, provide category expertise, including helping present to select customers

  • Partner with Insights and Innovation teams to develop innovation strategy, new product commercialization, and go-to-market plans and execution

  • Lead and manage cross-functional project teams to execute new product launches, product renovations or specification changes, packaging design, artwork approvals, SKU and materials management and financial feasibility exercises

  • Support monthly Integrated Business Planning (IBP) process by working with Demand Planning to prepare monthly SKU forecasts and participating in consensus activities

  • Work with agency to create brand media/communications plans, digital media and customer or consumer activations (coupons, promotions, etc.) in support of the annual marketing plan

  • Build research and knowledge agenda in coordination with Insights partners

  • Conduct business analysis and reporting (sales, profits, competitive activity, promotional results, etc.)

  • Prepare management reporting and advise on category trends and business performance utilizing internal and external data sources (SAP, IRI Scan Data, Consumer Household Panel, etc.)

  • Manage marketing spending budget and report on spending results and ROI

  • Manage day-to-day activities and development of an Associate Brand Manager direct report

  • Support or lead other projects/duties as assigned or needed

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or related field (MBA strongly preferred)

  • Self-starter and independent thinker with the ability to understand business fundamentals from an opportunity or challenge perspective, then convert that insight into sustainable strategies and action plans for growth

  • Entrepreneurial approach to driving a business with an ability to influence the organization

  • Strong financial and strategic acumen, analytical abilities, communication skills and capable of independent decision making and setting business vision

  • Project management skills and the ability to prioritize and multitask against several complex projects at a time

  • Familiarity with syndicated data systems (IRI/Nielsen, Consumer Household Panel, etc.), managing and leveraging primary consumer research and manipulating multiple data sources to generate business insights

  • Computer proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Word

Required Length & Type of Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years of Marketing, Brand or Category Management experience with a focus on Retail channels (Grocery, Drug, Mass, Club), preferably experience with a reputable Consumer Packaged Food company

  • Food, Frozen category and/or Foodservice Marketing experience a plus
