Director, Operations and Program Delivery - PARSIPPANY, NJ

The Director will oversee all Operations, Project Management and Delivery of a large-scale client engagement. This position is a critical role to the "Pod" concept -- a cross-functional/cross-agency team, which works exclusively on a large brand assignment for Chemistry. This person will play a critical role in pioneering a new way of working within a Pod that is agency agnostic. This position is part of a highly matrixed organizational structure, reporting to the Client Partner. This person also has a dotted line into the Core WPP Chemistry Finance and Operations lead, who has overall responsibility for global integration and operations across all Janssen engagements. It will include oversight of those people who play similar roles at the participating WPP agencies (OCH NJ and NYC, Wunderman DC, e.g.) report into those agencies and have a dotted line into the role. POSITION REQUIRES WORKING OUT OF PARSIPPANY, NJ WITH TRAVEL TO NYC TO INTERACT WITH WPP AGENCIES, AND PA FOR CLIENT VISITS.


An opportunity to train and develop a new cadre of professionals to bring "best in class" project management and operational delivery, infusing higher standards throughout the WPP network.

  • Day-to-day supervisory responsibility of the Pod Project Management team including motivation, training, staffing and departmental processes.

  • Instil a philosophy of active scope of work optimization.

  • Establish and build effective working relationships with key discipline leads across participating WPP companies.

  • Define processes and tools to ensure Pod integration, efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Accountable for all team members' adherence to elevated Pod and client standard operating procedures and utilization of appropriate tools and templates for each required task.

  • Instil a philosophy of active and strategic resource management within an integrated Pod. Be a key partner to Agency/discipline leaders to prioritize and forecast staffing requirements, fill resource gaps through sharing and proactively anticipate future resource needs.

  • Assess Pod team training needs and support the design and implementation of appropriate training sessions.

  • Serve as client-facing partner in supporting development of business objectives and delivery excellence.

  • Champion "best in class" PM processes / methodologies to build understanding of Project Management across the Pod.

  • Champion the adoption of above brand Chemistry and client initiatives.

  • Identify industry-leading best practices and implement them for the Pod.


Ensure Pod Project Management and delivery team:

  • Lead multifunctional teams, including Account, Strategy, Medical, IA, Creative, Tech, QA, et al, defining the overall scope of a project

  • Identify and mitigate project risks and future impact of project decisions to ensure project and program deliverables stay on track, escalates and documents as appropriate.

  • Ensure all QA has been performed and internal and client approvals are completed.

  • Demonstrate expert understanding of client CAC submissions requirements and process.

  • Are proficient in organizing project workflow and creative deliverables between agency, internal client technology team and vendor management.

  • Demonstrate ownership and oversees delivery management of annual scope (fee and OOP).

  • Ensure ongoing costs and changes in scope are tracked throughout project lifecycle and the reconciliation of estimates to actuals is completed on all projects.

  • Develop and ensures potential mitigation strategies are implemented to ensure seamless project delivery.

  • Ensures project resource allocation and utilization are accurate and in line with client engagement estimated budgets.

  • Evaluates and negotiates financial agreements related to project delivery.

Skills/Abilities Required:

  • BS / BA degree, or equivalent experience.

  • PM certification preferred

  • Minimum requirements include 7-10 years' professional work experience. At least 4 years in interactive or development areas.5-8 years' multichannel Project Management experience in Pharma/Healthcare space at an agency, including but not limited to email, Web development, print and direct mail.

  • 5+ years of experience managing Project Management teams.

  • A true leader who can be a collaborative and energizing member of the Chemistry Core leadership team.

  • An innate curiosity and the ability to create clarity from complexity.

  • Proven leadership skills, with ability to inspire team members.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.Ability to effectively prioritize workload and exercise time management skills.

  • Experience with process and workflow definition and operational improvement.

  • Able to effectively manage project/program P&L, which requires a comprehensive understanding of financial and operational KPIs.

  • Comprehensive understanding of the latest trends in both the traditional and interactive marketing industries, including but not limited to email, Web development, direct mail and print.

  • Strong skills in Microsoft software(Microsoft Project, Visio, Word, Excel, email packages)
