Job Description:
A full-time, long-term Research Technician position is available in the Patient-Derived Xenograft and Preclinical Therapeutics (PDX-PCT) Core Facility at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF). The position includes projects and responsibilities within the Patient-Derived Xenograft and Preclinical Therapeutics (PDX-PCT) Core Facility at OMRF, which is a shared resource facility directed by Dr. Bieniasz (https://omrf.org/research-faculty/scientists/bieniasz-magdalena). The Research Technician will contribute to projects exploring the mechanisms of ovarian cancer progression, metastasis and chemotherapy resistance. Our research is based on in vitro and in vivo tumor models as well as patients' tumor samples. The Research Technician will be responsible for performing a wide variety of projects including in vivo studies related to tumor biology and preclinical testing of new therapies.

These include:

-mouse colony management
-maintaining cell lines and tumor tissues
-generation of orthotopic and ectopic xenograft mouse models from cell lines or tumors derived directly from cancer patients
-advanced tumor monitoring and imaging
-preclinical drug efficacy studies
-preclinical toxicology studies
-tissue collection, preservation and banking
-clinical samples processing
-in vivo data management and analysis
-performing various biochemical and molecular assays

This position is eligible for career advancement if performance goals are met.

Work Hours:
Typically Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm, occasionally weekends and holidays.

Physical Demands:
Regularly required to stand, use manual dexterity, talk or hear; Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or rodent dander. May work with toxic, caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, liquid nitrogen, human tissue or blood. Potential risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to cold 4C, and/or extreme cold -80C from freezers. Noise level is usually moderate.


Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
1 - 3 years of relevant lab experience

Expertise in in vitro cell culture and in vivo mouse disease models, as well as knowledge of basic molecular and cell biology concepts and techniques is highly desired.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be organized, follow detailed experimental protocols, keep meticulous records, and meet all deadlines. Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are required. Must have ability to multitask, effectively communicate with co-workers and supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master degree in biological sciences. Candidates with experience with laboratory mice including knowledge of survival surgical procedures performed on mice and basic necropsy techniques are especially encouraged to apply.
