Job Description:





McCain Foods USA is seeking an Associate Brand Manager for our Retail Marketing Department. Reporting to the Brand Manager - Retail Appetizers & Snacks, the individual will support marketing across McCain, licensed, and store brands for the retail appetizers and snacks category. The Associate Brand Manager will act as a partner to sales, supply chain, and other functional groups within the organization. Responsibilities include supporting customer-driven new item launches and private label item maintenance, sales forecasting, sales and share reporting, and customer-focused communications.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (list by order of importance):


  • Execute retail private label business and marketing objectives, strategy and tactics across McCain retail prepared foods portfolio.

    • Assist in the development of business reviews, Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and Long-Range Plans (LRP).

    • Maintain current business, including management of p/l product, specification, and packaging changes.

    • Assist in improving portfolio profitability through formula consolidation, SKU and customer rationalization, including participation in value engineering activities for the category.

    • Serve as subject matter expert on retail private label while building true partnerships with sales and relevant business teams that deliver plans and ensure consistent high value for retail.

    • Develop key insights to increase relevance of product line to high value customers and help coordinate efforts to implement across cross functional groups, including work with Insights team.

    • Assess and provide recommendations for Requests for Proposals (RFP) and new business opportunities.

    • Utilize strong strategic and communication skill to lead and manage project teams to execute new private label product launches, packaging designs, artwork approvals, SKU and materials management changes and financial feasibility exercises.

    • Execute internal processes and reviews, including Cost & Feasibility Requests (C&F), Material Change Authorizations (MCA) and Material Master Request Forms (MMRF).

    • Grow sales and profits of product portfolio by utilizing insights of customer and sales teams

    • Address customer and sales inquiries and develop customer product presentations; work closely with sales to ensure proper and timely customer communication.

    • Support monthly demand planning process by preparing monthly SKU forecasts and participating in consensus activities.

    • Manage retail marketing budget and reports on spending results and return on investment (ROI).



  • Manage quarterly competitive review and reporting.

    • Examine the competitive landscape for risks and opportunities, calling attention to competitive activity.

    • Establish a schedule for product reviews with key stakeholders.

    • Coordinate cuttings, including procurement of samples, documents, and review protocol.

    • Identify quality issues or competitive opportunities relative to national brand standard.

    • Prepare a quarterly update on the category, including store visits, digital review, and promotions. Create a report and present to the team.









  • Support monthly business review data for deeper analysis and commentary by Senior Brand Managers.

    • Leverage both quantitative and qualitative inputs to develop a deep understanding of competitive, market and category dynamics.

    • Support the preparation of general business analysis and reporting (sales, profitability, competitive activity, promotional results, etc.).

    • Prepare and advise on category trends and business performance utilizing internal and external data sources (SAP, IRI custom & syndicated data, consumer household panel, etc.).

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Bachelors or advanced degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or related field (MBA preferred).

  • Minimum 1 year of Marketing, Brand, Category Management or relevant Retail channel business experience with a focus on Grocery, Drug, Mass and Club channels, and preferably experience with a leading Consumer Packaged Food company. Private Label, Food, Frozen category and/or Foodservice Marketing experience a plus.

  • Self-starter and independent thinker with the ability to understand business fundamentals from an opportunity or challenge perspective, then convert that insight to sustainable strategies and action plans for growth.

  • Entrepreneurial approach to driving a business with an ability to influence the organization.

  • Possesses financial and strategic acumen, analytical abilities, effective communication skills, problem solving abilities and capable of both independent decision making and driving a project through to completion.

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to prioritize and multitask against several complex projects at a time.

  • Flexibility to manage challenging timelines and juggle multiple projects and priorities.

  • Familiarity with syndicated data systems (IRI, Consumer Household Panel, etc.), leveraging primary consumer research and manipulating various data sources to generate business insights.

  • Computer proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

  • Our office will be moving from Lisle to Oakbrook IL in 4-6 months
