Job Description:
BC Conveying Machinery Ltd. is currently looking for an apprentice heavy duty mechanic who will be responsible for repair, troubleshoot and maintain mobile heavy duty equipment. It is a full time position for a mature individual with a trade related work experience. Area of work is primarily the Lower Mainland of British Columbia but in rare circumstances may include travelling for work across British Columbia.

Job duties:
- Check forklifts and other material handling equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required
- Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications
- Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment
- Service forklift and other material handling attachments
- May attach components and adjust new equipment.

Job Requirements:
Technical and personal skills
• Ability to work with heavy and large mechanical parts
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• High level of attention to detail
• Good English language and communication skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as team member
• Valid driver’s license is required
Work experience:
• 2 years’ experience working on electric forklifts
• Completion of high school
• Some post-secondary training and education in electrical engineering or heavy duty equipment is an asset

• Starting salary would be $24.78 per hour = 65% of Journeyman wage for 6 months
Salary would increase as follows over the next 3.5 years:
$26.68 = 70% of Journeyman wage for 6 months
$28.59 = 75% of Journeyman wage for 6 months
$30.50 = 80% of Journeyman wage for 6 months
$32.40 = 85% of Journeyman wage for 6 months
$34.31 = 90% of Journeyman wage for 6 months
$36.21 = 95% of Journeyman wage for 6 months
$38.12 = 100% of Journeyman Wage

BCCM supplies all Personal Protective Equipment and coveralls.
After 1 year of service:
Safety boot allowance $240/year (with receipt) Tool allowance $470.00/year
A comprehensive benefits package is provided by the International Union of Operating Engineers. The Union benefit package includes:

- Pension plan
Vacation: 2 weeks after 1 year
Employment conditions:
• Safe work environment should be maintained at all times and working conditions are physically demanding and involves heavy lifting. Work involves also grease, oil, dirt and diesel fuel and may be exposed to fumes and noise.
