Job Summary:



This is a 4-6 month temporary position working with a group of plants on safety and security programs. You will be assigned a group of manufacturing plants and work with the teams at those plants to improve safety and security. This position provides support and strategic direction in the areas of safety and security for all U.S. operations. This includes oversight in the development, implementation and continual improvement in the areas of safety and security policies and procedures, workplace injury & illness prevention, facility security plans and OSHA compliance. Provides coaching, feedback, developmental opportunities and technical expertise to the safety & security management team to maximize individual and team performance.



Note: this position can be based from our Lisle, Illinois office or at one of our Midwest manufacturing sites. There will be approximately 70% travel with this position as this role will be working closely with an assigned group of manufacturing sites.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



Provides leadership and direction in the safety and security areas for multiple facilities. Oversees plant health & safety teams in the development and execution of goals, action plans, policies and procedures to achieve safety, workers' compensation and security performance objectives.



Provides guidance on how to comply with state and federal safety regulatory requirements and the McCain Key Element process including behavior modification, supervisor training and employee involvement. Liaison with regulatory agencies in the event of inspections or complaints. Conduct safety audits and ensure proper corrective action is taken.



Analyzes safety statistics and other metrics to determine if the safety and security systems are effective. Monitors, evaluates, and provides frequent feedback on performance results through injury/illness summaries, monthly reports, conference calls, project updates, and annual audits. Communicates and recommends strategies to senior management and plant management.



Plans and develops strategies to create standardization of policies, procedures and reporting requirements across the organization in order to promote an efficient safety and security team that maximizes continuous improvement.



Establishes and implements short- and long-range strategic goals, organization objectives, policies and procedures to achieve a world-class organization. Utilizes internal and external resources in the development of building a sustainable comprehensive safety & security program.



Stays abreast of pending developments in the safety & security area that could impact the company via web site research, professional associations and seminars and communicate the information to relevant members of management. Acts as a liaison between McCain Foods and trade organizations or legislative sponsors by providing input to proposed or existing legislation, while working with these sponsors to minimize the impact on McCain and/or our industry.



Represents the U.S. on the McCain Global Safety Council.



Ensures contracted security guard services are meeting plant service and financial objectives.



Performs other related duties as assigned.



Supervisory Responsibilities



This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities. The Plant Health & Safety Managers will have a dotted line to this position.



Education & Experience



Undergraduate degree in related field required, Masters degree desirable. Certification in Safety or Security Management is desired. Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in the safety and security required with at least 3 years in a plant environment within the manufacturing industry. Must have demonstrated successes making change and positively impacting safety and security results in a manufacturing setting. Knowledge of Federal and State safety requirements required. Training experience a plus. Good working knowledge of human resources information systems, Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint required.

A proven track record of continuous improvement and results orientation achieved through the development and growth of others. Must excel at thought leadership and the ability to work with and influence others. The ability to deal with and develop a plan in an ambiguous environment is key. Experience in training and facilitating is a plus.
