Directs, coordinates, and facilitates activities of the Engineering department. Ensures product and people safety. Empowers employees to do their job and practice food safety practices. Your participation in the continuous improvement process is required, as you are a member of the leadership team at the facility. Activities desired in your role as a member of the leadership team are safety audits, quality, process improvement initiatives, employee training, and upgrading your employees and your own current skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Promotes and adheres to all McCain safety rules and regulations to ensure product and people safety.
- Follows all safety and regulatory standards set by state and federal regulatory agencies.
- Follows standards by McCain Foods Emergency Contingency Plan.
- Oversees and directs the Engineering and Maintenance department staff and activities.
- Develops, plans, and administers department budget.
- Attends and participates in all annual, departmental, and job specific required training and monthly informational meetings.
- Builds and promotes a strong "Teamwork" environment in each individual work group, the Factory, and the Company.
- Communicates any problems or changes in department to appropriate personnel.
- Develops, approves, recommends, and administers the capital projects and budgets at the location level.
- Monitors the CMMS System to complete daily workloads and work orders.
- Schedules and leads meetings for EIT, Safety, Vendors, etc.
- Evaluates employees for schooling and training.
- Keeps software support current for plant control.
- Understands and adheres to the concepts and techniques of the quality process in order to ensure a quality operation.
- Monitors areas in accordance to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's).
- Participates in continuous improvement process.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Boiler Refrigeration, Electrical, General Maintenance, Capital Projects, Packaging Maintenance, Stockroom, and Waste Treatment departments. Directly supervises one Maintenance Manager and Secretarial employee.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Promotes and adheres to all McCain safety rules and regulations to ensure product and people safety.

SCOPE OF AUTHORITY
Hires, disciplines, and approves pay levels for employees in consultation with the Plant Manager and Human Resources.
Authority to enforce McCain policies and procedures.
Authority to schedule and edit time for Engineering and Maintenance Employees.
Appropriates and approves authorized budgeted amounts for maintenance activities.
Authority to start and stop equipment in the factory for safety, maintenance, and repair issues.
Responsibility to monitor work areas, watch for suspicious behavior and report any concerns regarding unidentified visitors and/or unauthorized personnel.
Authority to question and take appropriate measures regarding the safety of themselves, other employees, products, and equipment.
Responsibility of maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the food processing facility, especially where any raw or finished product is produced.
Authority to report and/or eliminate hazards to the safety of the food that is produced in the facility.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or one to two years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and known variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Professional Engineering License preferred, but not required.
