Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Brand Manager (SBM) for Valspar's Consumer NA division is responsible for developing strategy and managing a specific segment of the Valspar paint business in the U.S. to build consumer demand, market share, sales and profitability grounded in deep consumer, product and market understanding. The SBM works collaboratively across cross-functional teams to recommend brand strategy, develop and commercialize new product development pipeline, and drive P&L results. Accountabilities include brand strategy, consumer and market insights, innovation and product portfolio management, integrated marketing planning and pricing management.

CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Development of current and future brand strategies including implementation, and administration of Valspar brand management programs; analyzes overall brand and business performance; creates marketing objectives and strategies.




  • Leads the development of integrated marketing plans that deliver high-impact, efficiency and results; manages day-to-day responsibilities of key agency partners.




  • Advances consumer insights and brand strategy; partners with Consumer Insights and R&D to analyze consumer trends, techniques, product categories and geographies to help identify category trends and future sources of growth. Analyzes product portfolio to help determine product classes to enter, exit or maintain.




  • Identifies brand growth opportunities; quantifies potential and develops plans for approval.




  • Manages strategic partnerships, as assigned.




  • Partners with Marketing Services to develop and design marketing and advertising materials for the Valspar brand based on marketing strategies; ensures proper branding, differentiation, messages, layout, and logos to reach the target market and desired results.




  • Collaborates with Channel Marketing teams to develop and strengthen strategic customer partnerships.




  • Collaborates with Product Development teams to support strategic new product launch efforts; works with Director of Brand Management to develop commercialization or "bring-to-market" plan, including launch spending and marketing and trade programming; works collaboratively with cross-functional teams to recommend post-launch success metrics.




  • Supports new customer acquisition by presenting marketing strategies and products to key accounts.




  • Consumer focused; strengthens brand relationship through engaging and insightful programming.




  • Works across internal and external partners to develop key lessons and implications across Advertising, Media, PR and Sales.




  • Completes other tasks as assigned.






QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

At least six years of Brand Management experience, with at least four years of experience in a CPG company or working with top retailers.

Bachelor's degree required; MBA strongly preferred.

  • Strong Strategic planning abilities including all aspects of planning, including internal alignment from the top‑down, and external alignment with vendor partners.

  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with key business leaders, groups within Consumer NA and key accounts; ability to influence all parties involved in order to gain the respect and support needed to ensure project or task completion.




  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)





WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Professional office environment. Travel up to 25%, as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
