Job Description:
The City of Culver City is seeking an Advance Planning Manager with strong management skills to ensure projects and services are delivered efficiently and effectively. The individual selected needs to demonstrate effective problem solving skills and excellent communication skills. He/she will ensure the success of the division by staying abreast of principles and practices of municipal planning, long-range planning and concepts of sustainability and local mobility related to urban growth and development. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and desire to build and maintain strong working relationships with City staff, elected officials, and the public. Knowledge of laws relating to land use, environmental planning, budgeting and strategic planning principles. In addition, the ideal candidate will have technical knowledge in preparation of Request for Proposals (RFPs), effective management and supervision.

Skill and ability to develop short and long range planning programs, interpret long range planning and mobility programs for the general public, and analyze and apply diverse forms of data to complex planning issues to arrive at sound conclusions and recommendations.


Job Requirements:
Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. Typical way: Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional level experience in urban planning with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience. A Bachelor’s Degree with a major in urban planning or related field is also required. A Master’s Degree in urban planning or a related field is highly desirable.
