Job Summary



The HR Specialist supports a culture which empowers employees to achieve the Company's mission. The position will work closely with hourly employees and supervisory personnel to achieve key performance indicators in the following functional areas: Employee Relations, Training, Supervisory Development, Hourly Compensation Programs, EEO/AA Compliance, Litigation Management, Job Analysis, Policies and Procedures, and Employee Involvement Teams. This position reports to the Human Resources Manager.









Job Functions



Employee/Labor Relations

o Pro-active in implementing measures to ensure continuous improvement in employee relations. Provide assistance to hourly employees/supervisors in problem solving and policy interpretation. Reviews hourly disciplinary actions and provides guidance to supervisors on progressive/positive discipline. Ensures key performance indicators are measured and reported regularly regarding functional areas of responsibility and develops/implements action plans to meet/exceed goals.

Policies and Procedures

o Assist in the development, revision, implementation and training of policies and procedures affecting hourly employees (e.g. Employee Handbook, Supervisor's Manual, etc.).

Compensation/Benefits

o Involved in development/revision of wage structures; development/administration of local wage/benefit surveys; market analysis; recommendations for changes in hourly benefit programs; benefit problem resolution; ongoing training/coaching to fully implement the communication process; reviews hourly performance appraisals after delivery for consistency/adherence to policies.

o Ensure all required reports are prepared/analyzed; Prepare the annual Affirmation Action Plan; Manage internal grievance procedure and respond to external charges, maintaining all required documentation; Assist in training all employees in AAP/EEO/Preventing Harassment and related policies; Assist management in meeting all key performance indicators.



Hourly Recruiting/Staffing

o Develop/implement hourly staffing and recruiting programs with the H.R. team to improve quality of applicant pool and new hires.



Employee Involvement




  • Play a key role in readying the hourly workforce and supervisory personnel for transition to increased self-direction and involvement in day-to-day operations.



  • Employee Activities



  • Assist in coordination of employee activities including budget preparation and monitoring. Involvement in other projects as required.



  • Daily contact with supervisors and employees to resolve employee relations problems



  • Adhere to safety program and participate in behavioral observation program.



  • Other Job Duties as assigned by supervisor










Job Qualification Requirements



Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Industrial Relations, Business or closely related field. Five-Ten (5-10) years experience in Human Resources, Labor Relations or related experience preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

Computer and administrative skills

Working knowledge of applicable laws.

Availability - position supports all shift operations requiring early mornings, late evenings and at times off shift work.

Must be self-directed and motivated.

Detail orientation for projects such as the Affirmative Action Plan, Compensation Development, and litigation Management.
