SUMMARY:



The Global Manager Food Safety/Sanitation is McCain's expert with respect to overall food safety (including GMPs, hazard analysis, and plant sanitation). The position manages the relationship with McCain's outsourced sanitation and cleaning provider as well as ensuring a consistent and measurable best practices approach to address sanitation and food safety issues across McCain's various plant operations around the world.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide strategic and operational direction and leadership to McCain food safety programs.

  • Provides leadership in in risk assessment and implementation of the global microbiological management program, ensuring the environment is microbiologically safe for the production of food products..

  • Develop, implement, and verify effectiveness of the food safety management system

  • Provide guidance, support and training for execution of the Global Food Safety initiatives within R&D and Operations

  • Interpret sensitive food safety related technical information and provide objective science based recommendations

  • Design of microbiological challenge studies to assess product shelf life expectancies and ensure minimal regulatory risk for new technologies.

  • Approve design of microbiology-related studies for understanding and management of product and process development risk

  • Provide leadership in in risk assessment and implementation of the global sanitation management program, to include awareness training & education on program requirements.

  • Evaluate and provide guidance on proper sanitary design and construction of food plants and equipment

  • Maximize overall equipment effectiveness while striving for world class sanitation standards

  • Develop standardized training materials for all McCain facilities to ensure a consistent approach.

  • Collaborate and interact with global and local R&D, global and regional operations, regulatory and legal, procurement and supply chain to develop food safety compliance strategies

  • Other projects/duties as assigned or needed.




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • BS Degree in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science, Chemistry, or related field.

  • Candidates who are Registered Food Sanitarians are preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the food industry.

  • Active Food Safety professional who continuously stays abreast of new developments.

  • Functional expert in food plant sanitation

  • In-depth knowledge of food safety, food microbiology, manufacturing processes, food regulation, sanitary design and quality management.

  • External perspective, business acumen, and benchmarking focus for world-class food safety management

  • Experience with implementing food safety and quality management systems in the food industry - GFSI benchmarked schemes background with accomplishments in design and implementation in RTE and NRTE categories.




Desirable knowledge and experience in:


  • High moisture NRTE and RTE processes including frozen and chilled operations, vegetables and animal protein industry

  • Food sanitary design

  • Bilingual language skills desired.
