Job Description:











Summary



The primary purpose of this position is to provide leadership, supervision and guidance to skilled maintenance employees to minimize mechanical downtime and optimize preventative maintenance efforts. This position manages the labor, material, and overhead costs associated with electrical, processing and packaging maintenance using the work order and Computerized Maintenance Management System. Provhides customer support for internal and external customers (i.e. Production, Purchasing, MRO, Building and Support, Project Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Human Resources, etc.). This position also develops a high performance team that is self-managing, motivating, innovative and provides growth for individuals within the team.









Job Functions



Essential Functions:

  • Maintenance:

    • Provide direction for maintaining and operating all physical equipment to ensure proper utilization; investigate and eliminate, where possible, any mechanical or maintenance problem which would affect production schedules. Maintain and aggressively improve a Preventative Maintenance Program. Operate at or below the department operating budget.





  • Safety:

    • Maintain a safe and productive environment for the maintenance departments at both plant facilities which includes: thoroughly train new employees on how to work safely, recognize hazards, understand safety rules that apply and consequences of non-compliance; ensure necessary safety equipment and protective devices are provided/used; enforce safety rules; have an adequate self-inspection program for safety; take prompt corrective action when unsafe conditions or acts are identified; investigate all accidents involving those supervised and develop corrective action; see that all injuries are reported promptly; facilitate semi-monthly department safety committee meetings, maintain and improve the department Key Element Rating; give full support to all safety procedures and activities, adhere to safety program and participate in monthly behavioral observation program; and ensure the fulfillment of all training requirements (e.g. HazCom, Lockout/Tagout).





  • Quality:

    • Ensure maintenance members are trained, understand requirements and meet requirements throughout the production and maintenance processes. Require team members to follow all provisions of operating instructions and Good Manufacturing Practices. Require conformance to cleanliness standards and routinely inspect all assigned areas for cleanliness and sanitation. Assist other departments in investigations to determine causes of quality defects.





  • Organization Development:

    • Applies a systematic approach to planned change in a long-range effort to improve the Maintenance Department's ability to cope with change in its external environment and increase its internal problem-solving capabilities. Organization development efforts address both process goals (achieving improvements in such things as communication, interaction, and decision making among the mechanics, focusing on how well people work together) and outcome goals (achieving improvements in task performance, focusing on what is actually accomplished through individual and group efforts). Position is accountable for: creating an open problem-solving climate; supplementing formal authority with that of knowledge and competence; moving decision-making to points where relevant information is located; building trust and maximizing collaboration among individuals and groups; allowing people to exercise self-direction and self-control at work. Human resource management efforts include: interviewing/evaluating/hiring prospective employees; evaluating performance; facilitating the performance improvement process; establishing a climate conducive to positive employee relations; training, motivating, encouraging and developing employees. Complies with all legal requirements (e.g. EEO/AA, OCFFP, Wage & Hour, ADA, FMLA).





  • Customer Service:

    • Maintain effective customer/supplier relationships, both internal and external to the department. Interface through MRO to establish/maintain effective relationships with suppliers/vendors. Contribute to feasibility studies on new and existing products.





  • This position functions as an effective contributing member of the Technology Support staff group bringing personal experience and expertise that is clearly distinguishable from other members. The nature of this position requires the ability to create positive working relationships and to involve others in working collectively toward the achievement of department and plant goals.



  • The incumbent must be able to direct maintenance efforts in all departments (Production, Quality Assurance, Safety, Purchasing, etc.), and support new projects with maintenance labor when required.



  • The incumbent must initiate and maintain a cost reduction program, execute long range planning goals and establish budget controls.

  • The position requires a Bachelors degree in an Engineering or Technical Field, or equivalent related experience with five to seven years experience in the maintenance management field.

  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills to motivate, encourage, train, direct, lead and coach a diverse group of maintenance abilities.

  • Strong people development skills; and the ability to manage a seven day a week, 24 hour operation.
