Primary Position Purpose:

To serve as lead for Alcoa/Arconic federal affairs (Congressional and Administration) reporting to the VP, Government Affairs and Defense and working closely with other members of Alcoa's Government Affairs (AGA) Washington Office. The candidate will be responsible for a variety of assignments: develop and execute Congressional and Administration engagement strategy; track key policy positions that impact Alcoa businesses; develop pipeline of R&D funding projects for Alcoa technical teams; develop and execute contributions strategy for Alcoa PAC. This position requires a high degree of sensitivity and discretion in dealing with legal, private, confidential and proprietary matters, excellent organization skills, and strong interpersonal and communications skills.

Principal Position Activities:

The job responsibilities of this role will include, but are not limited to:

  • Legislative: Develop and execute a Congressional engagement strategy with key delegations and committees the supports Alcoa's business objectives; maintain relationships with Congressmen and staff; track legislation of impact to Alcoa businesses (including Appropriations, Energy, Banking).

  • Administration: Develop Alcoa's footprint with key Administration officials (including OMB, Treasury, Energy, Commerce, EPA, FAA, NASA); identify opportunities for Alcoa thought leadership positions with Presidential advisory boards and councils; execute strategy for developing R&D funding opportunities for Alcoa technical leads.

  • Associations: Serve as central organizing function for Alcoa participation in advocacy associations, think tanks and 3rd parties in Washington; participate as company representative as appropriate.

  • PAC: Develop a PAC contributions strategy; coordinate delivery of PAC contributions to maximize participation by membership.

The job environment requires teamwork and adaptability. The candidate communicates, interacts and cooperates with all levels within Alcoa and with high level foreign and US government officials and business executives.

Critical Competencies:
The candidate must display excellent communication skills, elicit confidence and make effective use of these skills to establish positive rapport with external contacts and company employees. The position requires detailed knowledge and proficient use of Microsoft Office and other software, systems and database.

Tenacity - Workload is high volume and fast paced, with multiple issues and tasks occurring simultaneously. Incumbent must be capable of working under stress, completing or problem solving quickly and moving on to the next issue. The incumbent needs to be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, be cognizant of internal and external customer priorities and be receptive to frequent prioritization changes.
