Job Description: Asst. Director, Faculty and Research Development-20785
GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: Under the general direction of the Department Vice Chair for Research or designee, the Faculty Development Coordinator for the Psychiatry Career Development and Research Office (CDRO) is responsible for all aspects of managing the unit, which supports career development and research needs for the UMass Department of Psychiatry.
Additional Information: Experience in basic and clinical research preferred Experience with the identification and organization of educational programs in higher education or a major corporation preferred.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as a knowledgeable resource to faculty and Post Doctoral Fellows in all career matters Identify grant opportunities for faculty and lead efforts in grant writing to secure extra-mural support for faculty development, curriculum development and research. Manage faculty development programs relating to teaching, mentoring, manuscript preparation etc. Create, implement, manage and disseminate educational programs and curricula targeted at faculty development in the areas of promotion, research, leadership and other skill building activities. Maintain an electronic data base of participating faculty, faculty development programs and initiatives developed by the CDRO, and create a bibliographic and other reference resource pertaining to faculty development within the department. Analyze, inform and report on performance and programmatic outcomes regarding CDRO Faculty Development Serve as the responsible department official contact for responding to all surveys, reviews, and inquiries pertaining to matters involving faculty development Set project priorities for Departmental research and career development initiatives in consultation with the Vice Chair of Research. Manage support staff of the CDRO to achieve the goals of promoting faculty and staff career development, increasing clinical and translational research Lead the overall coordination of the Departments research related Educational activities and events. Lead efforts in the development of skills for grant writing, paper writing and career planning activities for Departmental faculty and staff Support the assimilation of new research faculty and staff into the Departments research environment, including establishing mentoring relationships Represent the Department at internal meetings, school-wide meetings, national conferences, granting agencies, etc. Develop and Lead training workshops and provide one-on-one mentoring to tenured and non tenured faculty Provide guidance to understanding and applying UMass and Sponsor Research policies & guidelines Write articles in the areas of career development that would be submitted for publication. Provide regular analysis and status reports on the CDRO, Departmental research and career development initiatives to campus leadership. Job Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree in Education, Psychology or, a related field, or equivalent experience **PhD preferred** 5 years of experience in personnel development and research preferably in an academic environment, including supervisory or management experience, or equivalent. Knowledge of the processes governing faculty merits and promotions in an academic environment required. Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills. Computer and technology skills with proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of programs, and the creation and maintenance of desk top databases. Writing skills as demonstrated in written reports, proposals, educational plans, and scholarly writing including grants. Demonstrated proficiency in using computer based tools (MS Office Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and statistical software. Excellent organizational and record keeping skills (paper and electronic) Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with professionals and nonprofessionals
