Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Disaster Services Manager, supports the delivery of the appropriate Disaster Response in their assigned area of operations. The Disaster Services Specialist works with other paid and volunteer staff throughout the Region for cohesion of services.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Within their assigned area of operations and within the framework of the regional disaster capacity building and response plan, the Disaster Services Specialist:
• Provides support to disaster volunteers, in coordination with the Disaster Action Team
(DAT) Leaders and activity leads;
• Maintains upkeep of all disaster supplies and equipment to insure a 100% readiness response to disasters;
• Maintains current knowledge of Red Cross Disaster Services, disaster policies and procedures and assists the Manager, Disaster Services in the development and maintenance of preparedness plans. Responsible for being on an on-call status for group callouts and for being present and assisting in disasters;
• Interviews disaster clients and provides casework services, adhering to Red Cross policies and procedures.
• Maintains accurate and complete records and reports, including gathering of statistical data, furnishing this information, as assigned, for appropriate action, review, and approval (including but not limited to weekly reports, FOCIS report);
• Serves as part of the regional disaster team when it is activated to assist in supporting the response to larger disasters within the region;
• Provides support for appropriate developmental opportunities and recognition of volunteers within the Emergency Services program;
• Participates in local, regional and statewide drills and exercises to develop the capacity of the Disaster Services Program.
• Utilizes the Disaster Services Human Resource (DSHR) system for coordination of volunteers, assist volunteers with self-access and is familiar with SABA to help ensure all volunteers are entered and have access to all on-line training;
• At a minimum is ranked as a service associate and actively working toward a supervisor in OM, MC, IP, CLS, ER, Logistics or SS. Available for deployment outside the region as needed;
• Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for all functions performed for this position;
• It is the responsibility of all Red Cross staff members to recruit, train, and work with volunteers and to treat all clients, volunteers, guests, and other employees in a courteous and respectful manner at all times while maintaining a cooperative atmosphere for everyone. It is expected that each member of the regional team work with a volunteer counterpart to ensure key volunteers are utilized and ensure depth within the function;

This role could range from helping to secure in-kind donations to support our volunteers and clients to actually working on a portfolio of major gift donors and making gift asks;
• Carries out any additional assignments required to fulfill the Mission of the American Red Cross.


Job Requirements:
Position Qualifications:

• High school diploma/GED required.
• Minimum of one year related work experience or an equivalent combination of education/related work experience required.
• Possesses a commitment to inclusiveness and an ability to work effectively with diverse groups, including key community leaders and organizations.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
• Possess excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, and listening skills, as well as the ability to interact effectively with donors, volunteers, and staff.
• Availability to work flexible schedule, to travel and be accessible beyond normal business hours.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, internet, and data-base management.
